... One veteran Republican strategist, who asked for anonymity to speak candidly, told The Hill that Trumps response was "a f- - -ing disaster." The source added, "I have no idea where we go from here" ...
... high-profile criticisms may not be enough to mitigate the damage wreaked by Trump. He has the bully pulpit of the presidency and the firestorm around his comments reached parts of popular culture late night talk shows, for example where statements from McConnell or a Facebook post by Romney hold little sway ...
In an interview with The American Prospect before his abrupt departure from the White House on Friday, Bannon insisted that the GOP could "crush the Democrats" if liberals were to stay "focused on race and identity, and we go with economic nationalism."
One problem with that theory, of course, is that it is Trump himself who has seemed so focused on race and identity for the past week. And his comments have been welcomed by former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke and others on the extreme right ...

(81,438 posts)NOT some race for domination, some race for the most bucks, or any of that. If you say you're so Christian, then tell me you understand the message of the Beatitudes, or Matthew 25, verse 35-45 (that's the "least of My brethren" one). It's about being peaceful and tolerant, and NOT taking rights away from anybody else, or decide somebody else who doesn't look like you is somehow less than you.

(182,868 posts)IMHO. They knew who he was catering to and sooner or later he was going to either make one big mistake or a series of them. He's done both. They couldn't really imagine that he would brand them as being aligned with Nazis or the Klan. They loved their dog whistles all these years but thought they'd never have to answer for them.

His entire time polluting the White House has been a fucking disaster. I pray every day some democrats can step up and run against the Paul Ryan's ... wait, they are all Paul Ryan's. This could crush these SOB's I'm very anxious about 2018.

(10,130 posts)Fucking Bush 2 was just 8-9 years ago. So was no Health Care, an incredibly week economy, unemployment sky high, banks crashing everything etc. All at the hands of Republicans. ALL.

(4,533 posts)He thinks that thinking about race, no matter what caused those thoughts, causes white people to vote Republican. So if Trump says racist things, and that gets in the headlines, Trump wins. Trump probably agrees which is why he said what he did in his press conference.

(5,693 posts)The Republicans are mightily outraged that the monster they created is actually acting like.....a monster! THEY made him. Years of radicalizing their base with ever increasing hateful rhetoric; dog whistles that now sound like the referee whistles during a football game; gerrymandering themselves into a position where comity and cooperation aren't necessary...All those things have contributed to a slavering mob that has finally found its hero. And NOW the Republicans are pulling up the fainting couches?
