If you care about gerrymandering, watch North Carolina over the next few weeks. In the coming days, North Carolina Republicans will reveal the new maps they drew after a court ordered them to fix their gerrymandered state districts.

This is a huge moment. These could be the first of several new maps around the country that will go into effect before the 2018 election. But we don't know what kind of maps they'll be. Will they be fair to all North Carolina voters? Or will they once again be rigged in favor of Republicans and dilute the power of people of color?

NDRC and our partners in North Carolina will be watching very closely. If the new maps are still rigged, we won't hesitate to take action to retire Republican lawmakers who are standing in the way of fairness.

Map-riggers like doing their work in secrecy -- all the better to hide it from voters -- but if Republicans continue to dilute the voice of the people, we'll shine a bright light on their dirty deeds and hold them accountable.

It's our first big chance to show Republicans that the same tricks they used to silence voters in the past won't work anymore. They won't work because this community -- you and me -- has banded together to build a grassroots movement that will fight rigged maps in court and defeat the politicians who vote for them.
