ALAMEDA (KRON) The Jewish temple on Alamedas Bay Farm Island was vandalized this week according to Alameda Police.
A large object was thrown through the windows of Temple Israel, located at 3183 Mecartney Rd., sometime between 9:30 p.m. Wednesday night and Thursday afternoon, police said.
No one went into the temple and police did not discover any graffiti.
Police say this will be investigated as a hate crime.
The suspect is only described as someone wearing all black clothing.
Community members are planning to come together Friday at 7 p.m. at the temple to show their support for temple members. A temple representative says all are welcome to join.

(48,955 posts)we need to pay attention to the ripples that are growing - in both directions - and with such fast news cycles - recommending such a story can make sure (if it gets to the greatest page) that people see the story before it falls off the page.
It's part of being 'woke', and 'resist.'

(48,955 posts)In fast news cycles, the speed of posts in DUs GD can relegate a post to page 2 or 3 (not seen) and important items can fall out of sight, before many can read. At the time I posted my comment, there had been about 25 reads, no comments and one recommend (prior to mine.) Clearly my response was premature.
There are times one is gratified - to be wrong (per my initial response.)

(61,693 posts)It's unfortunate that stupid flame war threads about personality get hundreds of recs here as people take sides and bash one another in the comments.
Threads about something appalling - that everybody agrees is appalling - get little attention. Does one "rec" a thread when the topic is horrific? Sometimes that feels wrong. What more can one say?

This was just my attempt to make sure the post got a little kick and time for a few more eyes, with a pitch for "important" (and to keep the OP on page one a little longer on this crazy news day.)
Thx for responding, despite the fatigue.
Take that break. We all need to do this (take breaks) in this era of insanity.

(45,496 posts)the windows should have never been there. No windows were breaking before glass was invented, think about that.
The people who threw the objects were failed by society and are the real victims in this story. Many are of course fine people.
Fox News will tell us every mistake those windows have ever made in their lives and conservative blogs will tell us eyewitnesses saw the windows throwing objects at the nazis so it was self defense.
The objects are hard workers just trying to make it home to their kids before those worthless entitled windows got in the way. If the windows were more conservative they wouldn't break so easily. Weak!

(5,275 posts)20-20 last night was on our deep divisions, I DVR'd it, but quickly erased it when they seemed to be going with the two scoops both sides to blame road.
My local paper yesterday had an article about far right wing hate groups in freaking Ohio and there were as I remember 13 of them.
Rough times ahead I think.

(6 posts)This was the original story from when the vandalism happened. But it misses that there was a community vigil at the synagogue last night to condemn this hate crime and stand with the community.
There were maybe 200-300 people in attendance. The mayor, vice-mayor, and entire city council attended, along with the police chief and state assembly rep. I personally drove 50 minutes from my home to Alameda to join the group, and met up with an old friend from Catholic school and my brother-in-law and sister-in-law.
This is the necessary response when someone in our community is attacked.
I'm surprised I can't find a story about the vigil on KRON 4. They had a camera crew there last night. --rjs

(58,785 posts)groups intended at all. Texas A&M canceled their ralley planned for 9/11 (!), statues coming down, more backlash in many states.
Their leader is currently trying to make hay, not out of being a victorious member of the undefeatable master race, but out of supposedly having to hide from murderous liberals.
Thanks and welcome to DU, RocketJSquirrel.
