(29,722 posts)It gives me courage to see other women do these difficult things like confront the Nazis in their own spaces.

(37,648 posts)Throughout history, women have done brave and forward thinking things, in the face of real adversity and discrimination and shaming.
Not to take away from anyone's accomplishments, even men. But men tend to appreciate the accomplishments and bravery of other men, mainly white men.
When women do things, it's often more difficult, in the face of society's pressure against it, or at a dear cost that men don't have to pay.
Girls and women in some Middle Eastern countries persist with education and other things, though oppressed and even disfigured with acid in the face, or killed. Women can be very brave.

I fully support her protest, but civil disobedience usually ends with arrest.

(67,782 posts)....that parts of the building were to be open to the public with unlimited access.
trump wanted to build 20 stories higher than permitted. In order to get approval, trump was granted permission by the City of New York to build the top 20 stories of the building in exchange for operating the atrium as a city-administered privately owned public space.
The woman unfurled her banner in that atrium.

(53,061 posts)If they are simply escorting here out she would be technically "detained", handcuffed until she exited.
not sure if she was arrested or detained and released.

I guess the charge would be criminal trespass?

(7,530 posts)It's private property, but a hotel lobby is s public area, so she's not trespassing, per se.

(20,730 posts)anywhere. And his lawyers know it.
I suggest people keep walking in with such things on their tshirts, hats, bags, whatever. Because they can't do anything about that unless it threatens his safety personally.
But her banner certainly did no such thing. Good for her!

(4,033 posts)but I don't think it is private property. I sort of remember reading that NYC mandated that the lobby & atria area(s) would remain open to the public, therefore treating this area like a park, etc.
Then again, I could be wrong. Also I remember from my Police days, that one of 2 things had to occur for the charge to be trespass, 1. The building had to have a notice that it was private property and trespassers would be prosecuted (usually a notice on the front door) or 2. The person had to be warned that they were on private property, escorted off and if they returned they would be arrested.
For it to be criminal trespass, it had to be trespass with a crime occurring resulting from that trespass.

(37,648 posts)People can do just anything in a hotel lobby or a public park.
I don't know about hotel lobbies in NYC. But here, they are privately owned, though the public uses them. The owners dictate whether people can, say, carry guns there, set up a booth to play music, whatever.

(28,979 posts)Uneven police response is clearly hard to process. Almost always ends with dead African American males these days. Yet Nazis walk armed, menace and assault citizens.

(6,568 posts)Civil disobedience is the active, professed refusal to obey certain laws, demands, and commands of a government, or of an occupying international power. Civil disobedience is a symbolic or ritualistic violation of the law, rather than a rejection of the system as a whole.

Organizing with BLM and some of the First Nations, several of them have gained recognition as more than willing to take a stand against the systemic oppression of working-class minorities that corrupts the politics of our government.

(2,752 posts)rather than New York police. I don't see police uniforms in the photo.
I don't know if it is still in effect, but during the Bush era, billionaire corporate CEOs were authorized to have private forces to defend their property. I remember being alarmed when I learned that.
