"SNIP........
But it is not clear what a meaningful, sustainable divorce from Mr. Trump could even look like.
The most extreme remedies, like impeachment, remain nonstarters in Republican circles. The party has likewise declined to embrace any formalized censure against the president, an option pushed Wednesday by House Democrats though last months sanctions on Russia, passed against the administrations wishes, were a notable bit of bipartisan defiance.
Among Republicans, though, the next steps are complicated by the presidents ramshackle legislative strategy: The White House has effectively outsourced its agenda to its partners in Congress.
Abandoning Mr. Trump is abandoning themselves.

(28,136 posts)That's what decades of letting corporate power write your legislation will do.
During actual times of governance when we need it they are clueless because of outsourcing. Outsourcing to corporate power.

As insane as this sound we should be thanking trump.
Republicans have worked for decades to get to the position they are at they are not going to give it up now. They are so close to being able to dismantle all the social engineering done since the 1930's. Social Security, Medicare, Safey, Labor Enviornment. They control Senate / House. Have a majority on the SC. Hold a majority of governorships and states legislators, a few more of these and their ultimate dream of being able to ratify amendments to the constitution is easily done. Goodbye free speech, free press... see ya 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 17th, 19th...
It is only dumb luck or karma that after working this hard for this long they end up with a complete fool in the top seat. If say Rubio or Cruz or Bush had won... it really would be all over for the US as we knew it.

Of course, considering the republican agenda, they don't give a fuck about America to begin with.
Also, let's be honest, the GOP courted racists long before Trump.
