Look, I'm not naïve, and I know that there's still a long way to go before Republicans publicly turn on him - which has to happen before this nightmare can officially end.
That said, this does feel like a turning point. Huge corporations are speaking out, Republicans are getting as close to the line as they've ever been in terms of publicly rebuking him, and the collective mood seems to have finally come around to full-fledged condemnation.
Again, I still think that we have a long ways to go, but when we look back I really think that this incident could mark the beginning of the end.

(11,257 posts)We're certainly far from that point, but I do wonder whether these last couple of days may have helped build some momentum.
Otherwise, I agree that there's still quite a slog ahead of us.

Trump will have to hug a brown person or literally kill a baby on live TV and then he still might retain control

BUT.....that money laundering thing taints Ryan and McConnell and other Repugs, and Pence is behind the 8 ball for obstruction ( re: Flynn),
so
this was a pretty big fuck up for Trump AND for his supporters.
Also, side thought...I am seeing wonderful, innovative tactics coming from the left, thankfully.
We-they- know it is important to keep the pressure up.

You are either with the fascists or against them.
There is no middle ground.

(7,017 posts)they will continue to timidly condem trump until this blows over which it will. They will only act after he can't help them pass fascist laws anymore then it will be time for Pence to take over. Trump has done more that enough to be removed by any standard. I really believe he could shoot someone on 5th ave and it would not matter. Provided it was the "right" person.

(2,404 posts)There is nothing he can say or do that will sway his hardcore supporters away from him. And I agree that he has done more than enough to be removed from office. The hypocrite Repukes would have impeached a Democrat for one-tenth the amount of bullshit.
I stand by what I said. You are either a Nazi or you aren't. No middle ground.

(811 posts)I think Trump is actively alienating himself from almost every element of society, including the Republican leadership.
He is going to prove too costly a burden for them to shoulder, and they will have no loyalty issues when the moment comes.
Trump hurt himself badly this week. It is a turning point from which he can't recover.

(15,317 posts)I've felt this way before. I can't count how many times I've thought, "Surely this will be the thing that ends him." It seems like one thing after another, each being worse than the last and it seems like it will never end. It's hard to believe it's still been less than a year.

The business council thing has evaporated and to make things worse Storm Front even called for disrupting Heather's funeral.
His bravado in the q&a yesterday isn't powerful enough to dig themselves out of this episode.

He'll want to go back to scaring us to death with Kim Jong un just to get control again, but that won't help. Going from disaster to disaster is wearing thin. We're all getting quite exhausted.

(3,732 posts)I remember all the "Trump is toast" posts here when the "grab 'em by the pussy" tape came out, and I knew it wouldn't matter. We can't expect others to fight this battle. It's all on us.

(2,091 posts)How many times has Trump done something that we turn to our spouse and say, "is this what will be the thing that sinks him"?
Then nothing happens.
Until the next stupid thing he does or says. And the cycle continues.
Those who still support him.....have stuck with him through pxssy grabbing, insulting McCain's war service, insulting a gold star family, trump university, doubting a judge's impartiality due to his heritage, calling Cruz' dad a conspirator in JFK's assassination, giving top secret information to the Russians in the White House, the drip, drip, drip of Russia-gate, Comey's firing, making fun of a handicapped person, being a draft dodger.....
The list is a lot longer than that. And the question has always been, has he gone too far, now?
So we have yesterday's Trump Crisis.....and we are surprised that more people haven't turned on him?
Remember the subset of people who are still by his side.....they have stuck with him through some real crazy moments.
Why would we expect these people, who didn't run when he was grabbing pxssies, or any of the rest, to run now?

(82,849 posts)Right now, I see that turning point being manifested in "I don't want to talk about this anymore." Which signals to me that some individuals are figuring out that they can't squirm away from the inherent racism of their position. For years, they've dressed it up in civilized words like "heritage" and "history," but that dodge isn't working so well anymore.
I'm not letting up on this. We've got momentum and it's time to press our advantage. The Nazis overplayed their hand, and we must call them on it.

(1,706 posts)It will be better if we have a dysfunctional president and congress to run against in the next two elections. If the repubs are smart (?) they will dump him quick.
