There is a Stereotype of Mormons being Swindlers

Last edited Sat Jul 14, 2012, 11:44 AM - Edit history (2)

After talking to several conservative christians. I found that they believe that Mormons are bunch of swindlers and liars.

Romney is playing right into that stereo type.

They GOP already started to paint that picture of him during the Republican primaries with the etch a sketch remarks.

Now his lies about Bain are also playing into that.

If his tax returns show he hasn't paid his fair share of taxes, this will continue to feed right into that stereotype.

All it's going to do is take one or two pundits to bring up shady Mormon LDS practices and paint Romney with a wide brush as a LDS charlatan. For weeks or months the media will be talking about the fairness of bringing up his religion, or if their is something to be concerned about. Basically any message Romney has will be lost and I think Romney is ultimately toast.

as I experienced working there over the years. Part of it is because the state has almost no consumer protections...very much let the buyer beware attitude, plus everybody's stepping over everyone else trying to get rich, which is the Mormon holy grail. Makes for a lot of vulnerability to scams.

chose polygamy over love for this country.

There's a lot swirling around Mitt's toilet bowl right now; his credibility problem with his base are only going to get worse...being Mormon is certainly not going to help.

but isn't that a typical stereotype of the "others?"

Of course, I have no doubt that it is accurate when describing Romney.

I'm just making the observation that that stereotype is out there with conservative voters, All of Romney's lies, and tax dodging feeds into that stereo type.

It isn't going to make much to put that forefront in conservative voters minds and when that happens Romney is toast.

I've always found it funny that there's been no attacks on Mitt's religion like the "Obama is a Muslim" bullshit. I know we're not at war with any Mormons but there is the fringe group, the Fundamentalists who are "at war with the US goverment". They claim not to recognize the governments authority yet their extended families survive by leeching from it with welfare. This would be painting with a broad stroke to associate Mitt with the fundamentalists but then again, his grandparents were also fundamentalists.

I guess it's really not needed considering Bain.

Fleecing the uneducated is a longstanding tradition in the LDS church, IMHO. It started with Joe Smith in upstate NY in the early 1800s.

Such suspicions have a sound pedigree, just as does the view members are part of an anti-Christian cult....
