http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/trump-rejects-white-supremacy-criticismBy MATT SHUHAM Published AUGUST 15, 2017 4:20 PM
In a startling press conference at Trump Tower Tuesday, a defiant President Trump switched course and returned to castigating both sides for the weekend violence in Charlottesville that rocked the country. He said not everyone who had shown up at the white supremacist-organized rally against the removal of a Confederate statue was worthy of condemnation.
I have condemned neo-Nazis, he said. I have condemned many different groups. But not all of those people were neo-Nazis, believe me. Not all of those people were white supremacists, by any stretch. Those people were also there because they wanted to protest the taking down of a statue, Robert E. Lee.
You had people and Im not talking about the neo-Nazis and the white nationalists, because they should be condemned, totally but you had many people in that group other than neo-Nazis and white nationalists, okay? he added separately. And the press has treated them absolutely unfairly.
He said the statue of Lee was to them, a very, very important statue, referring to the protesters. He also blamed the counter-protesters, who objected to the white supremacist groups rally, for the turmoil.

(6,324 posts)1. If I'm not a nazi and nazis show up at an event
I'm leaving.
And I'm not just saying that as an "attack" back before I decided that attending protests and rally's was a pointless use of time that were really just social events masquerading as activism I left events when people started coming out with banners and signs with communist logos and signs, because that isn't what I stand for either.

I'm still gobsmacked. I know I shouldn't be, as I know who and what Trump is - but damn.
