(9,527 posts)Here's a possibility. The voters in question feel left behind which then prompts the need for somebody to blame, ie blacks and women and Hispanics. Life is related.
There is a reason that far right nativist parties gain in support during and right after an economic downturn. And even though the US economy on aggregate is good, the loss of middle class manufacturing jobs has helped exacerbate our income inequality and even those who still have those middle class jobs can see how many fewer jobs there are.

You really can't decouple things and say it's 75% this or that. People are complicated.

(5,559 posts)Just ask those of us in rural red counties that went big for Trump. Our direct observations tell us it was a factor.
But not the only factor. Anyone who wants to point to a single concept or even a short list is oversimplifying.
