The TV spot referred to some CNN personalities as Trump "enemies."
On Tuesday, President Trump's re-election campaign accused CNN of censorship, alleging that the network turned down a paid campaign advertisement released Sunday. "After the campaigns media team attempted a standard paid media placement for the ad, CNN blocked the ad buy, censoring the message to the American people that 'President Trumps plan is working,'" the campaign said in a press release.
The 30-second ad, called "Let President Trump Do His Job," features a broadside against the media, and accuses journalists of attacking the president. "The president's enemies don't want him to succeed," the ad says, flashing on the screen the faces of many prominent journalists, including CNN anchors Don Lemon and Anderson Cooper.
It was this "enemies" graphic that CNN took issue with, though a network source said the ad was not rejected, as the campaign alleged. A CNN spokeswoman, in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, said: "CNN would accept the ad if the images of reporters and anchors are removed. Anchors and reporters dont have 'enemies,' as the ad states, but they do hold those in power accountable across the political spectrum and aggressively challenge false and misleading statements and investigate wrong-doing."
The re-election campaign first accused CNN of censorship in early May for rejecting an ad called "First 100 Days" that also included an attack on the media as "fake news." CNN, at the time, said it requested that the "fake news" designation be removed from the ad, as "the mainstream media is not fake news, and therefore the ad is false."
The president's son, Eric Trump, jumped on Tuesday's announcement by the campaign and said on Twitter, "This is why there is so little faith in the #MainStreetMedia (and why CNN's ratings were eclipsed by #NickAtNite)." In the campaign's statement, executive director Michael S. Glassner said, "While CNNs censorship is predictable, this will not stop or deny our message that President Trumps plan is working for the American people.'"

(51,627 posts)They didn't show it as an advertisement but as part of the news program. I can't believe they expected the MSM would show it. It is a total attack on CNN and MSNBC with photos of the top anchors.

(9,535 posts)As a journalist I find the president's demonization of media and pandering to hate groups over time to be a frightening combination. It seems he supports "free speech" for Nazis (unless they actually kill someone) but not freedom of the press, a right that protects truthful reporting for all Americans.
