He could have held Trump accountable for his bigotry but wanted to mess up his hair and pass him off as a "regular guy who had reasonable positions and you could talk with ".
Very few Americans knew who Comey was but tens of millions knew Fallon and read Trump's appearance on Fallon as Trump being "normal" even if you didn't agree with him.
The only upside is seeing Fallon 's reputation deteriorate with his ratings.
