Bragdon Bowling is withdrawing his request to the state to hold a Sept. 16 rally at the Robert E. Lee statue on Monument Avenue.
Bowling said by email Tuesday morning that "due to the potential for violence after Charlottesville, the rally on Sept 16 will not be held."
"I do not want to be part of an event where people are hurt or killed," Bowling said. "Our purpose is to save monuments, not be engaged in social and racial issues."

OP
If it's about history, put the statue in a museum and get it off public property.

He wants to "save" monuments to people who were fighting for the right to own black people. But he doesn't want to be engaged in racial issues.

As a catalyst for launching this hatred, I'm in favor of melting them all down.
Sorry but theyve been generally unreflective and have built communities around hatred and a wrong cause.
