It is an upside down world. Now we are white supremacists are demanding the civil right to openly discriminate based on religion, sexual orientation and race. That somehow it is racist to demand political correctness. That using the forbidden words is free speech. Hate and violence is ok in defense of that stance. The opponents and minorities are the real racists.
In the eyes of Trump supporters the KKK and Nazi party are legitimate civil minded organizations. So this new reality is where we are.
You wonder how much more twisted we can get.

It's the Council of Conservative Citizens/ White Citizens Council wet dream.
From the very second someone told they couldn't discriminate against others, they have been claiming they are the ones facing discrimination.

(11,742 posts)Ever since people of color and women started to fight for equal rights there was a backlash of people saying that their rights, culture, safety, and freedom were being destroyed. It has always meant that their dominance and ability to operate with relative impunity was being challenged. We have been down this road. We had a Civil War about it, then we had the formation of the KKK, then a century of terror against Black people, Catholics, Jews, and other minorities. Indiana in the 1920's and 1930's had a number of state politicians and the Governor who was part of the Klan, not to mention the Southern states up to and including the 1960's. We've been through fire bombings, lynching, and other acts of terrorism. Remember when the Aryan nations got their compound confiscated because they murdered an immigrant, that was the late 1980's. These groups have been claiming victim hood and legitimacy all along. David Duke took off his robes, went to school, and then ran for office. Reverse racism pops up time and time again.
We have not seen it to this level recently, but it has ALWAYS been there. Nixon courted racists, Reagan courted them (then denounced them). Hate group membership skyrocketed when President Obama was elected. Now they feel empowered because the president and administration are tacitly and often implicitly approving of them. We can get WAY WAY more twisted than we are now unless we stand up and resist.
