Mayor on alt-right rally: I dont want them in BostonLaurel J. Sweet Monday, August 14, 2017
Mayor Martin J. Walsh is exploring legal and tactical options for shutting down or containing Saturdays planned conservative rally on Boston Common after the violence in Virginia which included some of the same speakers listed for Bostons event.
Walshs office said no one representing the Boston Free Speech Rally had pulled permits as of yesterday for the event, though flyers are already circulating for a five-hour protest that kicks off at noon Saturday.
I dont want them here, we dont need them here, theres no reason to be here, Walsh said yesterday.
If need be, Walsh said, hell join the counterprotest himself.
Im not afraid of that. Theres no question Im not afraid of that at all, Walsh said. What we need is leadership to step up here and denounce the hate and violence of these white supremacists. We dont need to go backward, we need to go forward. Freedom of speech isnt about racist remarks and division ... I dont want that type of hate to come to our city. Weve worked too hard to move beyond all of that.

(29,219 posts)Why do you think that many brought body armor and shields and baseball bats (and assault rifles and handguns)?
They want a clash with anti-fa or BLM or whoever stands up to them physically.
They believe that they can start the race war (whites against anyone non-white or Jewish or non-Xtian).
This is why they voted for Trump. They think that his FBI, his DOJ will NOT go after them legally. They think that Trump has their backs - all of the calls for violence from Trump in the campaign PLUS assurance that "he would pay their bills".
I really think that the mayor should allow them to come... to march down a street... to assemble in a park... and that there should be 5000 police there surrounding them all the way. And nobody else should pay the slightest attention to them. No confrontations, no shouting at each other (does anyone believe that this changes the Nazi minds?)
Let the media cover them... they won't be able to help themselves from making hateful and stupid remarks.
If you feel you must protest them, then let's have 150,000 show up... stay far away from the Nazis... don't shout or carry signs, and turn your backs to them when they "rally".

The DU posting about it here today https://www.democraticunderground.com/10029459083
I hope that this gives Boston a heads up and a jump on who might have them in Boston and where they might be. I'm sure Boston, having had it up to here with terrorism, will be well prepared to deal with the Nazis trying to cause destruction there.

It's deeds not words, Donald.
