Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsTrump has a "tell" when he's lying and we just saw it
as he read the remarks about Charlottesville.
I first noticed this a few months ago, so I started paying closer attention when he's saying something he clearly doesn't want to, but feels pressured to.
The "tell": It's his breathing. He purses his lips and inhales sharply and audibly through his nose.
Watch the remarks again (if you can stomach it). Notice when that breathing oddity occurs. It's when he mentions the KKK and white supremacy.
Each of us on this site knows he didn't want to do what he just did. But the proof -- the physiological proof, proof that's undeniable to anyone who knows anything about the psychology of body language -- is right there for all to see.
He agrees with them. He stands with them.
And considering this came on Day Three after the violence, he has already provided the white supremacist Nazis with his approval. Now they'll just say he had to do this and that he's still with them. And they're right.

(4,066 posts)His lips are moving - he's lying. It's pathological. He can't help himself.

(218 posts)He lies so often and so blithely that usually he doesn't know or care about whether or not he'll be found out. When it's something like this, though, a carefully premeditated lie that he thinks he might get in trouble for if he's caught, he acts a bit more like a normal human being, "telling" that he's worried about this one.

(115,799 posts)I think those signs of stress arose from his anger at having to say something he didn't want to say. He knew he had to cave to all the pressure he was getting and hated having to do it.

(31,113 posts)If saying 30 million undocumented people voted in the election helped his cause, he says it instantly without blinking.
He is also a psychopath once removed, in that while he personally wont kill you and me, he will gladly faciliate the death of BILLIONS if it results in profit for himself or getting rid of Mueller.
BILLIONS.
Anybody disagree with me?
FuzzyRabbit
(1,969 posts)He thinks only of himself. If a decision will help him, that's as far as he thinks. He doesn't consider the effects on anyone else.
So yes, if he facilitates the death of billions he will do it if it benefits him, but he will be totally unaware that he caused those deaths.

(28,979 posts)He always lies first and then revises, and then reverts to his real views later. So he started condemning left on Saturday, revised to tell the truth today, and I predict will reverse tomorrow.
But I had not been looking at his fat mug to draw this conclusion because of the weak stomach thing.
I appreciate the fact you risked having nightmares to watch the body language, bluepen! You deserve a medal for your sacrifice.

(15,242 posts)After he makes some revision he will then find someone to blame. The scapegoat may or may not be someone directly linked to the cause of modifying the statement.

(28,979 posts)I don't really know but they did rail against their Jewish neighbors like clockwork working themselves up with lies, then blaming, then attacking in a hate-filled frenzy. Trump studied up on Hitler according to his first wife. And went to the Wharton School where he learned propaganda (marketing). The scapegoating thing is purely part of the pattern as you say. How many times has he branded HRC as "crooked." It is the only word many associate with her. I bet most on DU associate his lies with the word when he uses it on her. His lies and propaganda are the foundation of all else.

(9,897 posts)I took it to be a sign of his cocaine use and habit damaging his nasal passages...I am pretty sure that flushed, unnatural appearance of his and his labored attempts to control his mucous membranes is the result of him having a bump or two before giving these appearances that he finds distasteful and forced on him.
He sure looks like a drug-addled racist son-of-a-bitch to me....and that's BEFORE I see video of this recent speech...

(2,559 posts)It looks like he was well-rehearsed in this speech and managed to control his blinking, but he still blinked more than normal - in particular at the end when he said the constitution guarantees all people are equal under the law.
Clearly he doesn't believe much of what he had to say, but he knew he had to say it to stay in office. Eventually he'll slip up again and the whole charade will repeat, over and over, until he's gone.

(7,220 posts)Regarding the sniffing, I first thought it was cocaine as well, but given his brother's alcoholism (and subsequent abstinence) and his aversion to anything "counterculture", it doesn't seem likely. More likely is a food allergy. Given his notoriously unhealthy diet, it's likely that after indulging, he experiences swelling and drainage, hence the sniffing and heavy breathing.

(9,426 posts)view him as president. He is not intelligent, sympathetic, wprthy of respect. He s laughable as president, completely out of place. He is uncouth, low class, out of his depth in EVERY way. The gop have to OWN this useless bastard for the rest of their tenure. What a disgusting, disgraceful, total disaster this piss poor excuse for a human being is. Words fail to really describe how completely upset I am that THIS represents the US.

One trivial reason is his twitching. Those shoulder swings and mini-shrugs drive me nuts.
Those must mean something?

(4,862 posts)It is clear that he was not comfortable with the speech, which is a little hard to figure since he spent most of it talking about law and order, and little talking about the threat of alt right groups to our democracy. Could it be he doesn't see it?

(14,887 posts)I was telling a friend about a while back. I first noticed his lips. Then his breathing. His lips 'pouching' is extremely exaggerated. Once you see it, it actually becomes comical. You can mute him and know when he lies by watching his lips and breathing.

(2,679 posts)But yeah the breathing is the smoking gun. It was there for everyone to see in the debates. He lies before that. Its just the get really bad that's what the breathing is giving away. "Whoa mamma this lie is going to be a big one," then the coke breathing starts.
