‘You will have to shovel our bodies into the oven, too’: Father of Charlottesville neo-Nazi disowns him

One father of a marcher in Charlottesville, Virginia over the weekend is denouncing his own son after the young man was seen on national news spouting hate.

In a letter to Fargo, North Dakota’s InfoForum, father Pearce Tefft wrote that his family wasn’t certain about the beliefs of his son Pete. He learned of them as the country did, while watching Peter on the news.

“I, along with all of his siblings and his entire family, wish to loudly repudiate my son’s vile, hateful, and racist rhetoric and actions,” Tefft wrote, clarifying that he certainly didn’t learn such values at home.

“I have shared my home and hearth with friends and acquaintances of every race, gender, and creed. I have taught all of my children that all men and women are created equal. That we must love each other all the same,” he continued. However, he acknowledged, that Peter chose another path.

Shame on you, Pete Tefft! Shame! If you live a long life, you will regret forcing your father to denounce his son.

No words can describe his heartbreak at seeing his son at such a rally.

Something is badly broken inside that young man. He will have a bad life and probably a short one. I grieve with his father at the loss of his son.

The people who exposed themselves as vile racists and Nazis are being outed by people who know them. That is a good thing. It sends the message that says: "If you act as a racist and Nazi, we will recognize you and call you out. You own your own ugliness. If you do not wish to be known, do not appear in public places or do ugly things."

That message is going to be heard loud and clear wherever these people come from. People recognize those they know and they speak out about it. PERFECT!

I can't imagine having to disown one of my kids, let alone in such a public manner. On the other hand, a very uplifting message from Mr. Tefft. It's one thing to stand up for what's right, it's a whole other matter to stand up for what's right when it costs you something.

We do what we can to raise decent children, but we can't choose their friends.
