WASHINGTON — President Trump said on Thursday that he was preparing to officially declare the United States’ worsening epidemic of opioid overdoses as a national emergency, accepting an urgent recommendation from a national commission that he appointed.

“The opioid crisis is an emergency, and I’m saying officially right now it is an emergency,” Mr. Trump told reporters before a security briefing at his golf club in Bedminster, N.J. “It’s a national emergency.”

The president’s commission concluded last month that such a declaration was its “first and most urgent recommendation.” Led by Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey, Mr. Trump’s one-time presidential rival, the commission said that such a declaration would help direct more resources and attention on the crisis plaguing communities across the country.

Mr. Trump’s top health care official played down the likelihood of an emergency declaration. Tom Price, the secretary of health and human services, told reporters on Tuesday that the crisis “can be addressed without the declaration of an emergency, although all things are on the table for the president.”

I don't want anyone to die. My city in canada is going to hand out opioids and opioid replacement at its new safe injection site to stop crime. I'm fine with putting dealers out of business. And not arresting the addicted. I doubt Trump will do something so reasonable.

That he thinks a wall with Mexico, and tougher border policies will help solve the Opioid problem.

It is certainly very clear that the most dangerous part of the equation, is the fentanyl coming from China.

For all we know, China may be purposefully pushing this problem into the US.

I have no beef with Chinese people or culture per se, but there are still some serious Chinese Mao/Communist fanatics, who rally around things like Mao's famous statement:

"We will bury you!"

They have certainly buried our economy, and our workforce in a pile of mostly sub-standard Chinese goods, including loans.

I am not so sure that any of us really have a full picture of the plethora of games being played upon the inhabitants of this troubled planet.

One thing for sure, the good people of the world are being victimized by incomprehensible human produced greed and evil.
