Latest 'banning the American flag' story looks suspicious to me

I learned about this story "State Says Wrentham Flag Ban 'Was A Mistake'" when peeking at RW radio during a Thom Hartmann break (specifically Howie Carr's show where Michele McPhee was filling in and I got the idea to go to her site and start a "DU this Poll" because I saw an online poll where 87% predicted a Romney win in November)

A letter that banned the display of American flags outside homes in a public housing complex was a mistake, the state said Thursday.

Residents at the Garden Lane Housing Complex were notified of the controversial policy in a letter from the Wrentham Housing Authority that was taped to their doors Wednesday.

The letter said:

“Due to a tenant’s repeated complaints reported to the Department of Housing and Community Development over the July 4th holiday, Wrentham Housing Authority has been informed that the public display of the American Flag in common areas is not permitted. As a result, all American flag displays must be restricted to the interior of your apartment. Flags may be visible through the apartment windows but may not be displayed on the exterior of the buildings or on the ground around the buildings.”

This July 4th party pooper (who so far hasn't been named) has now triggered a new wave of "if you don't like the flag then leave" and Godbotting in the comments section, and...you heard it from me first before you see this story in RW chain mails with subject line "True stories of governments banning the flag" and red, white, and blue message layouts.

On the other hand, I wonder if this supposed "tenant" was a right-wing plant who intentionally tried to entrap the Massachusetts housing department? I have a hard time believing that someone would spend over a week complaining about flag displays. The story excerpted is from WBZ, and here's another story by the Boston Globe. The Globe reported: "the department received several complaints, the first on June 25 and continuing over the Fourth of July holiday, from a person purporting to be a tenant upset about public display of an American flag."

Given how the RW reacts like Muslims whose eyes landed on a Muhammad cartoon even at the lightest criticism of national symbols like the flag or national anthem (Bill Press recently encountered controversy over his mild critique of the national anthem) I'd say that homeowners' associations or any other government or non-government association should approach these issues with as much caution, skepticism, and amicable intent as possible.

I will forever display my flag whenever and wherever it pleases me. And I dare anybody to try and remove it. I served my country and I'm proud to be an American. Burn your flag if you want because that is your right and I will defend that right, but try burning mine and and you're in for an education. I don't give give a shit who you are, you WILL regret it.
