Mitt is having this short conference with these reporters because...

he wants to let everyone know that he will not be releasing his tax returns. That is the purpose of this "news conference".

He will answer a few short canned questions about Bain Capital but his reason for calling the reporters is to let them know he will not be releasing his tax returns and he will then attack the Obama Administration for chasing this dog when they should be concerned about the lack of jobs in this country.

That is my hunch about how he will handle this.

Only maybe he'll use a bit of a scolding tone so he can sound convincing and vaguely threatening.

When Romney scolds he sounds like an overprivileged asshole sending his veal piccata back for being too lemony.

'course he ain't gonna do that! He's fucked. Any prospective GOP VP has already made up his/her mind to say no.
It's a sinking ship.

He's more worried about his tax returns than he is about Bain Capital. He believes he can ride out the storm on Bain but not on his tax returns.

Sometimes I wonder who's running his campaign. First, not releasing your tax returns after everything that has gone down makes you look like you're hiding something. Second, not addressing the Bain issue is only going to keep it lingering. He needs to address it or he's cooked.

IMHO Willard has to pick a VP soon-- to deflect the massive bad PR he's getting on Bain
and his stupid tax returns

There's already blood in his waters.

Being that the President has stood up to this issue, believes that the american people have the right to know about bain; mitt will not be able to run from it.

But I suspect you are correct that he will attempt to put this to rest.

the Campaign should say, "Lack of jobs? The data shows 28+ straight months of private sector growth and we have encouraged republicans in Congress to pass the Administrations Jobs Plan so that the public sector can join in the recovery. But that said, I understand why (romney) is reluctant to release his tax records, at best, they will show that (romney's) private conduct has had very real and negative, public effects."
