From AFL-CIO blog,
Call Grows for Olympic Uniforms to Be Made in the U.S.A.
Mike Hall
The furor is growing since it was reported Wednesday that the spiffy red, white and blue outfits U.S. Olympians will wear in the opening ceremonies of the Olympic Games in London were Made in China.
Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) blasted the committees choice to offshore the Olympians uniforms.
I think the Olympic committee should be ashamed of themselves. I think they should be embarrassed. I think they should take all the uniforms, put them in a big pile and burn them and start all over again.
And you can join growing voice to bring the uniform jobs homes by signing a petition (click HERE) urging the U.S. Olympic Committee to have new uniforms manufactured in America for the athletes on the Olympic squad.
There are many U.S. clothing makers with talented union workforces who can put together quality outfits at less than the whooping cost of $1,945 for the mens and $1,473 for the womens Ralph Lauren-designed, huge Polo-branded uniforms.
Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) suggested the Hugo Boss plant in Cleveland as a good place to make replacement uniforms.
Take a look at a few of these well-known American clothing companies that could have easily made the uniforms. The list is provided by our friends at the Labor 411 the union business directory from the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor:
Brooks Brothers/Garland Manufacturing;
Hartmarx (formerly Hart/Schaffner and Marx);
Jones New York;
Kenneth Gordon;
Miss Elaine;
Phillips-Van Heusen Corp;

(113,065 posts)No one is surprised if they follow Bush family's pals. Lauren has been thick with Bush family for decades and his son recently married Lauren Bush.
Wanna bet Prescott Bush increased Ralph's profits by the many millions as he set up the deal between Ralph and Chinese manufacturers back in the years when Prescott was head of US-China Chamber of Commerce?

(21,849 posts)A polo pony does not represent the US. It represents the 1%. That thing should not be on a uniform that is supposed to represent the United States of America.
Being Made In China and having a logo that represents the 1% illustrates how fucked up the country is currently.

(26,080 posts)The only people in the US who are historically known to be big beret wearers are the military. The uniforms do look very one percent, and almost 2K per uniform??? WTF???
Put the team, male and female, in blazers and linen pants or tracksuits. Put them in polo-placket shirts and nice shorts. Hell, put them in Hawaii shirts and khaki shorts.
AND NO CORPORATE LOGO ON OLYMPIC CEREMONIAL OR PERFORMANCE WEAR!
