(7,820 posts)But you have to go pretty damn far down the line of succession to get a Dem, and that assumes everything happening at once before new people can be chosen/elected.Yes, Paul Ryan or Mike Pence would be better than Trump. But that's a low friggin' bar.
Otoh, feeling cautiously optimistic about 2018.

(5,810 posts)If the campaign is found to have colluded with the Russians doesn't that taint Pence, too? Seems like the whole ticket is ineligible to occupy the White House. And if the two men on the ticket shouldn't be there, what about the Cabinet and appointees? No wonder some legal experts say we're headed for a Constitutional crisis. I am pretty sure the Founding Fathers never envisioned quite the mess we're in.

(2,003 posts)Collision isn't a crime. Corruption is. Pence won't have anything to do with Trump's corrupt business deals.
Also, don't forget something important. The GOP Congress loathes President Trump. They're happy to step aside and see him thrown to the wolves.
On the other hand, Pence is part of the club. The GOP establishment will close ranks around him. They'll let Trump swing in the wind but not Pence. Vice President Mike Pence won't be going anywhere other that the White House. And Trump going anywhere prior to the end of his term in office is a pretty tall order.

(19,565 posts)It makes a sort of sick sense if you think of it. They're both evangelical ideologues and Cruz was the second place person in the GOP primary.
