A new poll this week from Quinnipiac University found that not only had Trump's approval rating sunk to a new low, but support among key demographics Trump won during the 2016 electionmost notably white voters without a college degreehad also dropped off.
Just 33 percent of voters approved of Trump's job performance overall, a sharp decline from 40 percent approval in the Quinnipiac poll at the end of June. Sixty-one percent of voters disapproved of Trump in the latest survey.
But even among white, non-college votersthe folks often credited with handing Trump the presidencythe president's approval rating was underwater. Just 43 percent of that demographic approved of Trump's job performance while 50 percent disapproved. In June, 53 percent of white voters without a college degree approved of the president. In the 2016 election, meanwhile, 66 percent of whites with no college degree voted for Trump, according to exit polls.
The survey was chock full of bad news for the former reality TV start turned most powerful man on Earth amid an ongoing investigation into his ties to Russia and a White House that has largely been defined by chaos and confusion. It also hasn't helped that Trump has fired or lost key staffers at a stupendous clip, including the recent departure of former communications director Anthony Scaramucci after just ten days.

(115,781 posts)He told them that these things would happen as soon as he took office: the coal mining jobs and other manufacturing jobs would come back; the ACA would be repealed; the Mexico wall would be built; Muslims would be banned or deported; Hillary would be in jail; and everything would be instantly awesome. But none of these things have happened and will not happen soon, if ever.
While it's true that the economy is doing OK, the gains in the stock market don't affect most of this demographic, and the new jobs are mainly low-paying retail and other service jobs. His mouth wrote a check his ass can't cash, and at least some people are starting to notice.

(10,624 posts)But, hopefully, this experience will be sufficiently discouraging to keep many of them at home, and away from the voting booths, in the future. After all, they elected their dream candidate, along with Republican majorities in both the House and Senate, and things *still* didn't miraculously get better for them.
Their simple-minded way of looking at the world has now been proven false, and their votes are useless when it comes to changing that.

(4,762 posts)the 20% he lost in this poll would likely still vote for him. If Trump proved anything in his being elected it is that polling, in his case, doesn't mean squat. Heads will forever be spinning on how someone so totally incompetent, immature, clownish and unpopular could have pulled this off in the first place.

(5,810 posts)They should have known better than to expect instant gratification, but they buh-leeved HIM, because that was another thing he repeated over and over. He drilled it into their heads until it was part of the chants he could get them to recite with only the slightest effort.
So now, six months in and counting, it is dawning on many of them that things are pretty much the same. Plus, he has not been able to disguise all of the many trips that were mini-vacations so he could get in a bit of golf. What happened to being too busy working his ass off to take vacations??? And now he is on a 17 day vacation after 1/2 a year in the job. How many of them could start a new job and qualify for a 2 1/2 week vacay after 6 months?
They may not be the sharpest tool in the toolshed, but even they can figure out when they have been misled. Few if any of the big issues have been addressed. Some that were addressed were colossal failures. And now the transcripts of the phone call with Mexico's president confirms that trump never meant any of what he said about the Big Beautiful Wall.
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know the trump voters are becoming disenchanted with him. This explains the need for rallies. He thinks he can bring them back into the fold. My best guess is that quite a few of them are done with him. They got burned and no longer trust him or what he tells them. I expect further desperate attempts to renew their enthusiasm, but hopefully they understand they were fooled by him. If they decide to really turn on him, he'd better watch out. He won't be able to run for dog catcher with any hopes of winning. 😂😂😂

(6,916 posts)This is evidence of the strength of GOP propaganda and right-wing media. Trump is doing nothing new. Little new is being learned, and nothing that is surprising.
The difference is the corporate broadcast media are finally covering the president somewhat fairly. They're talking about his failings and not just giving him airtime and repeating his lies.
