The engine turns off at rest instead of needlessly idling and pushing out more unwanted CO2 emissions. Very smooth restarts. All Cruzes with automatics do it. Yay.

(5,519 posts)It was disconcerting at first! But cool, way cool.
Congratulations on your purchase!
Love the car so far. Thx!
UAW made car, too!

Sudden starts from a red light or stop sign also can be a bit rough.
Nice in principle, but it and I had to work out a set of accommodations.

(10,720 posts)Disconcerting at first (speaking as a mechanic), but they really work pretty well.
My mom bought a Honda hybrid 10 years ago that I've driven fairly often, it has the same thing with the engine turning off when the car is stopped. I was skeptical at first, but it has worked perfectly so far, pretty much not a single mechanical failure in all those years. Except last year the battery pack started to fail and threw an engine code; the dealership replaced it for free.

It shuts off the feature, as one is emulating a manual transmission.
I am used to manual transmissions as I drove them for years, except in this case I don't hafta clutch and shove a gear stick around.

(4,141 posts)When the engine shuts off, all the engine driven peripherals shut off too. These are things like: air conditioning compressor, alternator, oil and water circulation pumps. Hybrids run these functions electrically instead, using power from the drive battery. The Cruze must have something similar or the occupants of the car could end up getting very uncomfortable if stopped at a long light or in stop and go traffic on a hot day.

(3,487 posts)As soon as I start the car. Totally useless feature imo.

(35,358 posts)it was a very nice solid car. For a compact car it had a very good and quiet ride. Had it 5 years and never had one problem with it.
The only slight criticism I have is it didn't have a lot of acceleration off the line. I traded it on a Ford Fusion 2 years ago and
never have had a problem with it either.

(13,563 posts)I like the Volt even better. It's about the same kind of car. Plug it in at night. If you run out of juice, the engine charges up the batteries.
A hybrid they way they should be, plug-in.

(13,563 posts)a plug-in SUV. Made in the states. At a decent price.
I need a larger vehicle to transport my gear for my job. I've been looking around, and can't find them.

(25,445 posts)The a/c wouldn't run at lights.
And the engine felt like it was going to stall.

(13,563 posts)I sit in a queue at a fast food place and all the cars ahead of me are idling. I turn my car off, of course as I wait. But the others are sitting there and burning fuel.
It's a good idea. Maybe the time adjustment could be better.
