Apprentice' editor reveals how they covered for Trump, made him appear wealthy, of sound mind,

Braun said the team of editors would have to “reverse-engineer the show to make it look like his judgment had some basis in reality. Sometimes it would be very hard to do, because the person he chose did nothing. We had to figure out how to edit the show to make it work, to show the people he chose to fire as looking bad—even if they had done a great job.”

Trump’s frequent lies also presented a problem. Braun explained:

“He would say things like, ‘We had a million applicants and we chose this small group to be contestants on the show,’” Braun recalled. “And I would turn to my producer and say, ‘A million applicants? Really?’ And the producer would shake his head no. Trump would just take numbers and throw them around. I mean, from Season One to Season Two, he said his net worth tripled. One day he said he had a billion dollars and then later it would become three billion; he just made stuff up.”

I've been thinking since Nov of the moment that Richard Hatch won because he was best at lying. It was such a shock to our collective respect for the truth, honesty; America let out a collective gasp, but that moment forever injured American morality.

Trump's White House has been aptly labelled The Survivor White House.

“Trump’s favorite word was ‘drill,’” recalled Braun. “He was always saying between takes, ‘I’d like to drill her,’ lewdly referring to female crew members working on set. He couldn’t help himself making comments about women and the way they looked. He also had comments about women he found less attractive. There was no question he took the men a lot more seriously than the women.”

i get that these shows want to show conflict and drama.

but it's plausible that people might want to work for chef gordon ramsey. even though he's clearly an *sshole, but there's enough in that show to make it clear (mostly in the quieter moments) that he actually is a very talented chef that people can learn from.

the apprentice, on the other hand, never showed donnie doing anything to remotely indicate management competence. all he did was pit people against each other; create an environment that encouraged people to lie and self-promote and to throw co-workers under the bus; be completely results-oriented no matter how it happened; and fire people, mostly for failing to display sufficiently alpha-male characteristics.

again, i get that some of that needs to happen for the sake of tv drama, but the problem with the whole concept is then that there's no good way for donnie to show he actually has anything to offer a potential hire. even before i knew anything about his politics, i would never, ever want to work for someone like that. he always came across as someone you couldn't possibly learn anything from, except by counter-example.

Anyone who didn't know trump was stupid and a con-man lived in denial.

I will always believe that racism played a large part. After 8 years of a black man with impeccable integrity, many needed a white man. Not a woman, but a man.

The fox news viewer loved the hatred. The reality tv watchers fantasized about a lie. Just give us a white man and America will be white again. And a woman would remind us that we are not in our wet dream fantasy of the 1950's.

We thought the country had come a long way. But a lot of the "bad" feelings were just suppressed for a while. The racism, the bullying, the sexism...

Suppressing those bad feelings is good, but it takes a long time- many generations- to finally actually achieve a widespread change like that. Eventually maybe it even causes a genetic change, who knows. But we're going to have to start again after this mess is over.

The only thing that hasn't come out yet are all the out-takes that the show's producers have hidden away. Plenty of hints but no tapes yet.

Apparently Cheeto couldn't follow a script - ever - so they just let him run off at the mouth and they edited it all later. They have hundreds of hours of unusable tape of Trump saying racist, sexist, and horribly mean things to people on the show. None of it could be used because it was a "family" show, but the producers still have all of it.

One of these days those tapes are going to be out on the internet.

I'm not surprised at the revelations at all. The problem rests in the fact that so much of this country treats reality television as legitimate and more than mere entertainment (not sure if these shows should qualify as entertainment).

We have our first reality POS-ident...shudder to think who is next. Dumbing down of America - not surprised at all that we wound up with such a dangerous clown.

The question is- how do we get back to valuing knowledge and breadth of experience?
