Instead, he is simply using one that is already sitting.

Federal Grand Juries are there for 18 month terms and hear hundreds of cases. A prosecutor need only schedule time with them.

Maybe I heard this from Joy Reid, now that I think about it. No matter. It seems the NYT had one story and the WSJ had the other slant - his own Grand Jury or an already sitting Grand Jury. In terms of the investigation, it is a difference without a material effect.

Both agreed on the essence of the story - Mueller is working with a Grand Jury *at least* to use their subpoena power (Mueller does not have subpoena power).

I do not speak lawyer. Does a Grand Jury have to be a fresh one in order to be impaneled? Can Mueller not impanel an existing Grand Jury?

7. I served one one of these 18 months grand juries. Depending a panel

Gets employed empaneled every other month or so. My panel heard various parts of various cases would convince 1-3 days a month. Now the jury that got seated a month after mine was one hearing evidence one 1 case. It was the Cyril Wetch (sp?) Case. We were not told anything about the case we were told that because the case was so complex and in-depth they wanted 1 panel to hear all the evidence and be able to decide if there is enough evidence to bring an indictment. That panel also had a more regulated schedule 2 full day and 1 1/2 day. Also that panel day slightly changed from a typical panel usually the panel meet tues - thurs. I remember the 1/2 was a Friday. (At least it was what I remember hearing.) My thinking is that a panel is dedicated to this alone + if the close of the 18months is coming up and it is not complete Mueller can go back and asked the panel be extended for another 6 months.
