Romney ally says Bain is off limits

Romney ally says Bain is off limits

by Jed Lewison

I guess Mitt Romney is going to have to take back his claim to have created more than 100,000 jobs at Bain:

Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell, a leading Republican figure, said Friday that Mitt Romney's time at the helm of Bain Capital isn't part of the record voters should consider in choosing a president.

Asked during a press conference here whether he thought Romney's experience at Bain should be part of his "record," McDonnell shook his head and said "No. No."

"All of these attacks are things that happened after Mitt Romney left as the managing director of Bain — he left to run the Olympics, some of the best Olympics in history in 2002," McDonnell said. "He left to do that in 1999. To the degree that there is any truth to these sorts of outsourcing allegations, they happened after 1999 when he was not the managing director."

So with Bain off the table, what does Romney run on? Matt Yglesias has a suggestion:

McDonnell says Bain is off-limits, so presumably Romney's running on his Massachusetts health care policies: http://t.co/nQruq8Gd

Probably a better idea than campaigning on being 47th in the nation in job creation.

Damn, can someone put that thing back in the bottle? Where the F is that Etch-A-Sketch?

Nice try Bob, but you can't blame Obama for making Bain an issue - Romney had made it an issue.

... for a one-time gig of running the Olympics? Maybe I've misunderstood his claim, but if that's what he's saying he did, doesn't that seem a bit weird? Why would somebody as unimaginably materially successful as Romney leave his position at Bain forever for a single opportunity (that doesn't even make him much money)? Was there any law saying that the guy running the Olympics has to cut all other business ties? If there was, I retract my question (I guess), although it still seems really unlikely to me that Romney, or anybody, would leave a moneymaker like Bain for a temporary, albeit high-ranking, position with the Olympics.

After all, this is his primary reason for claiming that he can manage the economy better than that "socialist" Barack Obama has. If THAT's not fair game, what is????

If they get to attack Obama's birth certificate, we get to attack Bain.

If they get to attack Obama for using a fucking teleprompter (which Romney also does ), we get to attack Bain.

Bain invested millions in a CHINESE outsourcing firm, Global-Tech appliances, whose main plant was in Dongguan, China. And Romney ads have the nerve to lie about lost manufacturing jobs under President Obama!

literally after crying that Obama wasn't paying enough attention to RMoney's fabulous success in business as his most excellent qualification--Obama doesn't know about business, unlike Romney, they said!

This is too delicious!!

Unfortunately, Repub voters won't remember a thing about the scandal come November becasue Romney is somehow better than Obama anyway. (He's white, you know)

I would wonder, why couldn't a "real businessman" help organize the Olympics AND run Bain? Can't walk and chew gum?
Hell, I'm just construction trash and I can do several different things in a day, or even at once.
These bozos are really grasping at straws now. It's still a bit early, but I'm starting to think his goose is cooked.
