(135,855 posts)2. Graham: Firing Mueller would be 'beginning of the end' of Trump's presidency
Sen. Lindsey Graham said his bill would mandate that any special counsel established to investigate either a president or his staff can't be fired unless you have judicial review of the firing.
Sen. Lindsey Graham sent a sharp warning Thursday to President Donald Trump that it could be the beginning of the end of his presidency if he makes moves to fire special counsel Robert Mueller.
The South Carolina Republican, who in the late 1990s served as a House impeachment manager against President Bill Clinton, said Trump would be crossing a serious red line by ordering the ouster of the lead investigator who is probing his campaigns ties to Russian meddling in the 2016 election.
Any effort to go after Mueller could be the beginning of the end of the Trump presidency unless Mueller did something wrong, Graham told reporters on Capitol Hill, where he outlined plans to introduce legislation next week that would move to block any Trump attempts to fire Mueller.
Graham said his bill which he promised would have Republican support and all the Democrats would mandate that any special counsel established to investigate either a president or his staff can't be fired unless you have judicial review of the firing.

Washington (CNN)Support is gathering behind a bipartisan push to protect special counsel Robert Mueller from potentially being fired by President Donald Trump.
Sen. Thom Tillis, a North Carolina Republican, and Sen. Chris Coons, a Delaware Democrat, plan to introduce a measure Thursday that would bar the President from directly firing any special counsel -- retroactive to Mueller's appointment in May.
"The President would maintain the power to remove the special counsel, but we would just want to make sure that it had merit and have that back-end judicial process," Tillis said Thursday morning on CNN's "Newsroom."
"And if there is a termination,
we just want to make sure, through judicial review, that it was warranted," he added.

Mueller's job security is virtually assured. Trumpy would not fire the prosecutor who's convened Grand Juries-- the targets of which are perhaps the entire first wave of the White House staff. That would be suicidal, but then again, if he fired Mueller, he'd be twisting in the wind for a much shorter time.

Nixon couldn't fire Archibald Cox either. Yeah he tried, but a court ordered the Special Counsel reinstated.
And Congress won't go for it. They are staying in pro forma session to protect Jeff Sessions from being replaced with a recess appointment. That should tell you all you need to know about where this is going.

go nuts and Republican's would be swept out of office so Dems could finish the job! Also, even Republicans are moving to prevent him from being able to fire Muller because they don't want to be swept out of office. Trump is in a world of hurt right now. The walls are closing in.
