To celebrate, do like the French and drink some Ricard or Pastis (anise-flavored liqueurs), play a game of pétanque (a French game reminiscent of Bocce), and eat some delicious French cheese.

Brooklyn, New York
Although Manhattan celebrates Bastille Day with an official parade that's sponsored by the French Institute Alliance Française (the parade is on Sunday in midtown), the real celebrations take place in Brooklyn, where the large French expat community leads the charge

Seattle, Washington
Seattle's Bastille Day Festival will take place at the Seattle Center on Saturday from 11am to 6pm

Just a block off the Leidseplein.

I happened to be there on a layover on Bastille Day in the mid 90s(?).
It was a regular stop for the crew. We'd have a few beers before proceeding on to dinner somewhere.
Very friendly bar with bowls of salted-in-the-shell peanuts (hulls on the floor).

We stopped by without realizing it was Bastille day.
WOW!
A huge French tri-color hung down the front of the building.

They had a flattop barge tied up at canal side in front of the bar.
At one end they had a charcoal grill going cooking burgers and dogs.
Kegs of beer.
At the other end was a 4 piece combo and a dance floor.
(It was a BIG barge.)

Here's the good part.
It was ALL...FREE!!!
Did I say 'good'?
Make that GREAT!!!!!

Those guys KNOW how to party.
