Some seem to think the orange menace is going to pocket veto the sanctions bill. I don't think he can.

pocket veto - The Constitution grants the president 10 days to review a measure passed by the Congress. If the president has not signed the bill after 10 days, it becomes law without his signature. However, if Congress adjourns during the 10-day period, the bill does not become law.

Sundays do not count in the 10 days. Congress has delayed their vaycay due to keeping the healthcare destruction dream alive to somewhere mid August. The bill has to be delivered to the presinut, and it was on July 27th. If he doesn't sign, it becomes law. Of course, some in the WH are saying it wasn't delivered. It was. Countdown starts as soon as delivered. August 8th? There are ways of keeping Congress open for business, too.
Of course, not signing the bill might save his orange behind from Pootey Poot for the short term.

The Senate on Thursday delivered Donald Trump the first big bipartisan rebuke of his presidency, giving final approval to a package of sanctions on Russia, Iran, and North Korea that constrains his bid to defrost relations with Moscow.

(4,149 posts)I realize that his announcements don't actually mean anything but not signing it now will only further spotlight the Putin connection.

(145,554 posts)Some say that the pocket veto occurs when it's not possible to return the bill to the house of Congress that originated it.
The Constitution's not just really clear on this point. But the sanctions bill originated in the House, not the Senate. I think the Senate will continue in pro forma sessions.
Doesn't much matter. I think he'll probably sign it. I suspect that the rumors of arms for Ukraine might become less than rumors, too. (Then again, what do I know?)
