That doesn't mean I am impressed with her taste in clothing. Just that it is insignificant. Matching your wardrobe to your career isn't insignificant.

Someone needs to share fashion cues with her because she's sadly lacking the knowledge of what works for her in such a professional position.

She REALLY needs some guidance on her apparel as it looks even worse on television, and she does not wear "business" attire -- she should be wearing jackets tailored to fit her shape, professional skirts, etc -- not shapeless babydoll style sack dresses.

A business suit would be appropriate for her position. With a skirt or, better yet, a pantsuit.

Ruffles belong at cocktail parties; not press conferences. And pearls? Every day. Pearls?

There are many things wrong with SHS. Her wardrobe doesn't make the list.

Why do we do this?? Why can't we be content with calling her out on her job performance? I hate to play the woman card here, but several prominent men come to mind that present as downright frumpy in their attire. I rarely see an OP here about that.

Respectful disagree with your respectful disagreement, because it's horribly mistailored (or not at all.) It's pulling across the bust, which is common in untailored RTW, since she's not a B cup, and most RTW is built for a B. She knows enough to get the fit right in the shoulders, but when something fits in the shoulders and is too tight in the bust, it's going to look awful. (She's with 70% of US women on this, alas.) Those ruffles are a foul design feature in this season's RTW and they both emphasize the pulling and add volume where she doesn't need it. (She actually has a nice neck and collarbones, and what that ruffle does is distract from her better features by pulling the eye.) It breaks up her shoulder line (which is another one of her better features). The fact that the ruffles are declining on-trend doesn't work in her favor; it says she's following trends instead of setting her own style. (It's a Devil Wears Prada moment.)

The fabric is cut off grain (common in RTW, even high end) and it's twisting at her waist. It's got to be uncomfortable, which just adds to her perpetual look of irritation and exasperation. Call it microaggression via Nordstrom.

Which is not to say it's a character flaw in SHS. (She's got plenty of those her parents installed and she's cultivated.) Fashion is a language, and skill set, and I cannot imagine her, her family, and her culture being okay with her spending her precious time on something they consider as frivolous and worldly as clothing when she had Bible Sprints to prepare for. And Scary Mucous basically ensured that she will never, ever trust a stylist enough to outsource her wardrobe. (I sure wouldn't, after his BS.) If this was her first wardrobe foul, I'd let it go. This is her hundredth? She doesn't know clothes, or what fits her well, she's probably never had clothing that fits exactly so she has no way of knowing what should work on her, and she doesn't seek out expertise, or the experts are giving her bad advice. She's either relying on her own (lack of) skill, or she's being conned by someone. Which is emblematic of everyone in this administration.

This has been my daily petty.

As for the menswear -- they get my daily petty on a regular basis (suits too big, trousers too short and too skinny, terrible shoes, the ties (!!!!!)... and the other end -- too tailored, too obviously class-markered, awful shirts (OMG, the shirts can have their own blog series)).

After years working shipyards and then a year recovery after a very bad fall where I put on 70 lbs between the stress and lack of extended exercise, my paternal genetics pretty much left me with the shape of an oversized pear.
My professional "presentations and meetings" wardrobe has to be tailored to keep people's attention on me rather than being distracted by how much like a sack of potatoes I might end up looking like. Even if I'm wearing the "hippy/flapper" ensemble, there's still a bit tailoring involved just to even everything out and reduce flab or jiggle.

Comments like this may not be snark just because she's a woman, a republican or a witless Evilangelical mouthpiece; it's about her ability to provide a professional appearance when speaking in public. One can be big or have features that are "off", and still be able to project authority and competency; how one arranges and carries themselves has a lot to do with that ability.

Ms. Huckabee-Saunders presents the appearance of a very unhappy middle class housewife trying to hold it together and provide cover for the men in her life who are too cowardly to defend themselves. Both in dress and in attitude.

The only thing I wonder is how she got those pearls off the neck of Barbara Bush? Actually, that was exactly my first thought when I saw them, they are trying to associate her with a person that most people seem to like (?).

According to the Weather Channel, it's 88 degrees/feels like 92 in Washington right now. WAY too hot for long-sleeved black dresses. Heat exhaustion is no fun at all.

I'm a little surprised though that everyone is concentrating on her visual appearance, and not so much on her "I really don't want to be here" body language and tone of voice. I can tell SHS would rather be anywhere and doing anything OTHER than what she's doing at that exact moment. It's almost as if everyone in the White House knows it's all about to end, and they're just going through the motions.

Whoever sewed the dress sewed them backward and they were actually designed to go the other way---flared out over her shoulders. In any case, she jumped back and forth between looking annoyed/irritated and smiling Jack. The dress probably didn't help matters. After she gets a gander at how that frock looked on camera, she will probably relegate it to the back of the closet.

In Rolling Stone, that mentioned her standard on-air wardrobe of black blazer and black tank top. Were I a person who appeared regularly in public, I think that I would aspire to a similar simplicity. A regular rotation of suits, skirted or trousered, with simple tops. I'd prefer a bolder range of colors, as I look awful in black, but I would be aiming for an unremarkable uniform, so that more attention would be paid to my words than to my appearance.

Men in public have it easier. Dark suit (never tan😊 , white shirt, tie. Yes they can vary the shirt and tie colors, but little attention will be paid to those choices. Attention will be on their words.
