The reason Nixon wasn't prosecuted was that Ford pardoned him. A pardon from Pence would be his way to avoid prosecution, and that could happen. But if Mueller uncovers serious crimes that would be provable in court and he's not pardoned, there's no way he wouldn't be prosecuted.

See that justice is served or seize the opportunity to get him out of there before he does more damage?

Ford's pardon of Nixon was likely a condition of his resignation. People are still divided as to whether that was the right thing to do.

President Pence pardons Trump

Still, if the alt-right R's refuse to raise the debt ceiling and the remaining R's are driven into the arms of the D's to stave off worldwide economic collapse, the resulting coalition might go on to do other things. A kid can dream.

"President" Pence will be able to appoint his own VP, and it won't be Pelosi. Or any other Dem, or any R who is complicit in anything impeachable.

The Rs control the WH until (at least) Jan. 21 2021.

They couldn't do something that blatantly political. Like the EC or not, the Rs won under the rules that exist now. To hold up the appointment of a VP in hopes of regaining the House and Senate in the next election would appear to be attempting to overturn the results of a legitimate election. A coup, so to speak.

Out of power, he'd likely get a pardon to save the country from the national embarrassment.
