is what so many Americans say. In Cook County IL there is a new soda tax that many are up in arms about.
What I can't understand is the complete disconnect of so many people. They expect roads, schools, parks, etc. , but never want to pay any federal, state, or local taxes. How did become so stupid?

And then our government at every level manages to mismanage some money - and that confirms the narrative.
So - millions believe "a businessperson" could straighten all this out, and now - here we are.

This has been the conservative mantra, the Grand Old Plan since Reagan declared "government IS the problem."
And this is why it has been so effective to call Democrats the "Party of Big Government."

(94,727 posts)Broadly speaking, they HAD roads, schools, parks, etc. before the soda tax, so arguably it's not needed. Soda taxes are essentially morality taxes, with someone else deciding what's good for you. A lot of people (including liberals) are opposed to that concept.
