Now imagine my surprise to wake and see/hear that McCain, for what ever reason, voted against the "skinny repeal" that from what I understood was going to be passed in the dead of night and then be tossed back to the House and possibly passed without noise or debate.
Was McCain temporarily possessed by or affected by his friend, Ted Kennedy?
So where does it stand now?
Are they going to recess for the rest of the month? Can we breathe for a day or two.

(68,643 posts)a done deal. MSNBC was re-running the vote. I notice Heller was one of the last votes. I think that he would have voted no if he had to...McCain had already voted.

(31,464 posts)Just a few brave patriots willing to stay in session, if I understand it correctly. They don't have to do much. Trouble is, who gets to close the session? I don't think Democrats have the power to call for a clean-up on aisle 5, let alone force the Congress to stay in session.

(4,875 posts)Using the threat of a filibuster, Democrats plan to force the Senate to hold pro forma sessions a practice both parties have carried out to block recess appointments from presidents of opposite party, Democratic and Republican aides say.
Recess appointments let a president install nominees who normally must be confirmed by the Senate; their terms would run through the end of the "next session" of the Senate, but the "pro forma" sessions essentially means the Senate is never in recess.
While Republicans control the Senate now, the only way they can formally adjourn -- which would set up a period when recess appointments are allowable -- is to pass an adjournment resolution. The problem is that Democrats can filibuster that resolution, which they would do to prevent Trump from making recess appointments.

This time instead of sitting and crying, I leapt for joy!
Terrible that the country is in this mess.
They won't quit because that is the source of their tax cut money, but maybe last night we turned a huge corner - I hope anyway.
