CNN? @CNN 53m53 minutes agoRock icon Rod Stewart helped pay for disabled children & their families' trip to Washington to protest Medicaid cuts http://cnn.it/2u1zlpB
____ The rock icon was at his home in Palm Beach, Florida, on July 10 when he watched CNN's story about the families on "Erin Burnett OutFront."
Minutes after watching the piece, Stewart emailed his manager.
"I've just seen something on CNN that's heartbreaking. It was a group of families with severely disabled children who are driving to Washington to confront about health care cuts. See if you can find out who they are," Stewart wrote. "I'd like to help in some way."
"He was so touched and heartbroken and actually teary," Arnold Stiefel, Stewart's manager for more than 30 years, told CNN. "He said to me 'As a father of eight I have to do something now.' "
Stewart's team contacted Lorio and her friend Jessica Michot, co-founders of Trach Mommas of Louisiana, and wrote them a check that covered the remaining cost of the trip.

(9,426 posts)in DC are taking away all hope. What a difference in people. The gop should be ashamed of themselves, but of course they are not. Someday, this will come back to bite them. Sooner, rather than later. THANKS, ROD. A true CLASS ACT.

(100,097 posts)The GOP needs to be punished severely for what they've done to America. Fucking assholes.

(2,284 posts)We have tickets this August for his Vegas show. While I like him it was the younger ones on our Vegas trip who opted to see him. However, seeing his compassion for the children I will now enjoy his show even more.

i met him in an elevator once and he was not friendly, but still, that was the best concert ever, and this is a good thing he's doing.
by the way we can all help the organization doing these demonstrations: ADAPT.org

(11,686 posts)has changed his attitude. No excuse to be not friendly but at that time he was an uprising star and young. I am glad he grew up and changed his attitude.

(11,802 posts)You go up on stage and give everything, everything you've got. Some need to recuperate before they're ready for small talk with strangers. Doesn't mean he doesn't appreciate the fans. Of course, he could a just been a dick. Lol.

Moral Compass
(1,524 posts)The sad truth is that the Republican leadership did not meet with or acknowledge these children and their parents.
I live in Texas. Both of my senators are doing everything they can to get some form of ACA repeal (they don't much care if there is a replacement) through. Cornyn is 2nd only to McConnell. Cruz has offered an amendment to allow the sale of junk health insurance policies that don't cover much of anything.
If I could get them in front of me I'd ask them, "Why? What do you think you will accomplish by doing this? You know you'll directly kill thousands and indirectly kill tens of thousands more. Why are you working so hard to make the world worse than it is today?"
Then they'd have me arrested.
