Why not launch an official investigation into Romney's "departure" from Bain?

We know damned well the rethugs would do it if the situation were reversed. Why not go ahead and appoint a special prosecutor to look into whether or not Romney committed a felony when he claimed that he had left Bain, when records indicate otherwise?
