The Boy Scouts of America issued a statement distancing itself from partisan politics after President Donald Trump used his speech at the National Scout Jamboree to criticize former President Barack Obama, his former campaign rival Hillary Clinton, fake news and pundits.
The Boy Scouts of America is wholly non-partisan and does not promote any one position, product, service, political candidate or philosophy, the group said in a statement Monday night, according to news reports. The invitation to visit the National Jamboree is a long-standing tradition and is in no way an endorsement of any political party or specific policies.

(38,436 posts)I thought for sure that they would issue an amends. So by not doing so, they prove that the BSA is not what the BSA claims to be...By not making amends, they are not worth while and will lose much support...WHY?
I don't think the BSA knew what Trump was going to say.........but....after he said it..the next move was obvious...to all but the adult leadership of the BSA...very sad...

(51,611 posts)they were in trouble for being anti-gay ans well as several instances of pedophilia (I may be confusing them with priests). I would think that if this was their history they would work twice as hard to redeem their wholesome image.

(61,695 posts)The Boy Scouts of America released a statement that did not comment on the president's remarks but stated that the nonprofit organization is wholly non-partisan and does not promote any one position, product, service, political candidate or philosophy.
The organization said that it is a long-standing tradition to invite the sitting president to speak at the jamboree, a massive gathering of tens of thousands of scouts from around the world that happens every few years, and that a president's appearance is in no way an endorsement of any political party or specific policies.
The sitting U.S. President serves as the BSA's honorary president. It is our long-standing custom to invite the U.S. President to the National Jamboree.

(38,436 posts)The BSA statement is bulls**t..says nothing..means nothing.
An apology says.
"We are sorry that Trump said things that were nasty, evil, and not keeping with the BSA ideals. We did not know in advance what Mr.Trump was going to say, and if we knew we would have prevented him from using those terms which offended so many. We are sorry again for this!"
Now that is an apology
They owed the Jamboree attendees and everyone at home an apology, explaining that they should have interrupted trump as soon as he headed off the rails. Yes, your statement is a true apology, something people are loathe to construct and articulate.

Randall Stephenson is probably best known in corporate circles as the chairman and chief executive of telecommunications giant AT&T, but he has also been president of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) since May of 2016.
But to issue such an apology might put Stephenson in a tough spot. In his other role, he has been trying to court Trump and the administration as AT&T shepherds its $85 billion deal for Time Warner though the Department of Justice (DOJ). The department is currently conducting an antitrust review, which evaluates how the deal would affect competition in the industry. The process is supposed to be private and apolitical, but there are concerns in Congress that president Trump is trying try to influence it.
Stephenson himself has had several calls with the president to lobby for the deal, the New York Post reports, and visited him at Trump Tower before the inauguration. He also attended a White House meeting on technology in June, where he was seated next to Trump, who praised him for his management style.

(38,436 posts)that the adult head of the BSA is also the CEO of ATT..and that person wants Trump's administration to approve a merger that ATT is working on with Time Warner....therefore,,,
making a formal apology, would indeed anger Mr. Trump, and that is not what ATT wants at this time.. It wants a friendly Mr.Trump and his administration, so it can approve the upcoming merger..
