He is running scared of Robert Mueller.
He will not wait for an investigation. He will fire everyone necessary to maintain power. He is like a rabid dog backed into a corner.
Even Putin will be surprised by how quickly he handles this little "problem".

(18,837 posts)Christie has too much of the stink of corruption on him...instant media target.
Cruz is universally loathed...instant media target.
But despite what we know and discuss regarding Giuliani on DU, he can still inexplicably get mileage out of the 9/11 "America's Mayor" brand.
And in terms of swift, conscience-free and ethics-free action, Giuliani would be the one who could most "effectively" carry out Trump's orders, especially when it comes to firing Mueller.
But yeah, he is acting fast and will continue to do so. The hounds are getting too close.

(18,837 posts)I'm neither a legal nor political expert.
What I do know is that at some point, it will fall on "Republican leadership" to take action, because since the Democrats are not in the majority, there is nothing they can do in a manner which will produce results.
Democrats can "call for" an unlimited number of actions to take place, and only the "Republican leadership" has the power to act on them.
That said, I don't accept the word "helpless" in any area of my life.
Maybe Trump just needs to run the train so completely off the rails that he flips large chunks of his base.
If we take back the majority in 2018, he's hobbled for the remainder of his first term.
If Republicans hold onto the majority, it's two more years of Ryan and McConnell checking things off of their bucket lists. And after tax cuts for the rich and gutting ObamaCare and the "safety net," what's left?
And realize THIS...if McConnell has his TrumpCare vote today and it PASSES, there's a backdoor deal-in-waiting for every faction he had to appease to get the votes. The "Freedom Caucus" turned their backs on the Ryan bill because it wasn't "extreme enough." These are not team players. If they concede in the moment, it is only because they have been promised something bigger in the long run.

(111,103 posts)For the reason you state. He could possibly lose some of his base if he fires Sessions.

(4,356 posts)but he will come out like a cornered rat. I don't doubt it for a moment. Yes, he's running scared and his whole family is threatened. And Putin, I'm sure, is very displeased. Tread carefully America.

(4,356 posts)Putin must know that America will be much, much wiser after this fiasco. They will not be able to infiltrate like they have recently. Russia might be the bear, but America is the bull that is awakening. I would not want to be Vlad or Donnie.

Big Shit about to go down. Some republicans will collude. Other will do nothing to stop it, and betray America by submissively going along.

(50,559 posts)The people who will have to sign off on Sessions' replacement know and like Sessions, because before the Tasmanian Devil got inaugurated he was one of them. There's a very good chance they will refuse to bring any new AG candidate in for confirmation hearings...and don't say they can't, they did it with Merrick Garland.

(36,478 posts)I hope someone, somewhere has a contingency plan for when this whole thing goes south, cuz it's going south & if everyone plays by the rules but Trump, then we're fucked. The dems have played by the rules for 30+ years while the repubs have been sneaky bastards. The time for taking the high road is over. It's time to get dirty & fight these bastards like there's no tomorrow, cuz that's exactly where we're at.
