Donald J. Trump? @realDonaldTrumpSleazy Adam Schiff, the totally biased Congressman looking into "Russia," spends all of his time on television pushing the Dem loss excuse!
Schiff is one of the most decent legislators in Washington. Whatever is left of our democracy is resting in the hands of legislators like him who aren't afraid to speak truth to power, and who fight everyday to defend and uphold the rule of law.
Trump will soil the entire nation before we take him down.

I agree with letting Schiff handle the rebuttal.

(22,130 posts)no president of mine trump...he is pathetic, a parasite, a fraud, and a sad excuse for a fellow human being. I'm embarrassed for our country, but thank god there are truly good people like Schiff (among many, many others) out there.

(34,195 posts)The GOP today have no "Goldwater" to tell Trump to get out.

(25,251 posts)I don't see McCain running for re-election again. He is considered the elder Repug statesman. He has nothing to lose. It would add to his legacy. A Goldwater type action used on Trump may just save the Repug Party. Just my humble opinion.

(59,504 posts).. and a few others because of their relationship to him. Look at the fact that he has absolutely humiliated Sessions, who had been the first Senator to back his campaign. There are stories that Tillerson is also unhappy with how Trump has treated him.
There have been other Presidents and leaders who have been said to "eat" the credibility and honor that people in their administartion or allied to them worked hard over long years to earn. NONE come close to Trump. There is also a sadistic side to it - one minor example - is the treatment of Sean Spicer. After he pushed Trump's insane lies starting with him having the biggest innaugeration crowd ever, when he accompanied him on his trip to Saudi Arabia, the Vatican and the G7 meeting, Trump purposely denied Spicer, a devote Catholic, the chance to be part of the contingent that went to the Vatican to meet Pope Francis. This was soemthing that would have meant a huge amount to Spicier and would have absolutely no cost of any kind to Trump.
I doubt that Trump would listen to any Congressperson or Senator and resign - even if they told him the votes to impeach AND throw out were there. I doubt even Ivanka could convince him to do that. In his case, either the 25th amendment or the entire impeachment process will be needed to remove him.
As to timing, unless Trump's Republican support falls drastically, I doubt he would be impeached. In far too many gerrymandered districts, a Congressperson's greater risk is in the primary -- and there may be districts where angry Trump supporters could remove any incumbent seen to be against him. I would imagine that if impeachmant happens, it has to happen soon or wait until early 2019 - if we control the House. (If we control the House, they will have seen that Trump hurts them and they might want him out as soon as possible then to give Pence an opportunity to help the Republicans keep the Presidency. For it to happen now, something even more drastic has to happen AND Republicans have to think they do better in 2018 with Pence as President and Trump impeached.

That I had major disagreements with Goldwater on all sorts of things notwithstanding, not for an instant did I doubt Goldwater's honesty.

(825 posts)because Nixon had lost the support of Congress, including the GOP by in large. I think that would have to happen today before McCain or any other GOP Senator could step forward.

(6,395 posts)...Nixon made more enemies in his own party than the Democratic Party. Remember this is the guy that rammed the Clean Water Act through, created the EPA, opened relations with China, ended...albeit begrudgingly the Vietnam War, improved relations with the then Soviet Union, etc.
Long story short, everything conservatives were against, he did. And the Republican Party has been trying to undo his legacy ever since. Not saying Nixon was perfect or didn't commit any crimes..and certain members of his staff would be tried and imprisoned in other nations, but hell, I'll take Nixon over Trump or a Bush any day.

(22,913 posts)"Crooked Hillary" was outrageously wrong and twisted and unfair in every way along with demeaning to our Democracy to be loosely tossed around by a leading Presidential candidate - but it originated while she was under an active FBI investigation and for that reason might have resonated with those who held similarly twisted world views as held by Trump.
But "Sleazy" Schiff? That simply flies in the face or human perceptions. There is neither a shred of any factual basis nor of any temperamental characteristics in Schiff that support a "Sleazy " inference. Trump might have gotten away with falsely calling the Congressman something like "Partisan" Schiff, but "Sleazy" corresponds with Schiff about as well as "Humble" does with Trump.
Let Trump use it, it only makes himself look more crazed to do so.

(4,377 posts)It doesn't matter that it's nonsense, they attack someone on their strengths not their weaknesses, and by endless repetition associate that person with the lie. The sad part is it generally works.
