Bloomberg News is reporting that the Russia investigation led by special counsel Robert Mueller is zeroing in on President Trumps business transactions.
The report quoted an anonymous source as saying that Trumps financial ties to Russia are the focus: FBI investigators and others are looking at Russian purchases of apartments in Trump buildings, Trumps involvement in a controversial SoHo development with Russian associates, the 2013 Miss Universe pageant in Moscow and Trumps sale of a Florida mansion to a Russian oligarch in 2008. The Washington Post has not independently confirmed Bloombergs report.
Somebody is basically daring Trump to try to fire Mueller.
Just a day before the Bloomberg report, in an interview with the New York Times, Trump said this is precisely the thing that for him would cross a red line with Mueller. The Times reporters repeatedly asked what would constitute Mueller going too far, and eventually Trump agreed that probing his business and his familys financial dealings would be a violation.

(1,089 posts)that'd be the ultimate test for these repukes who so far are choosing Russia over their own country. It it went THAT far and they continued to act like cowards, I think that would lead to the bursting of the dam. I've said that before and been wrong, but there has to be SOME breaking point out there somewhere, doesn't there?

(6,081 posts)If Trump fires Mueller, that's proof of impeachable offenses per se. If the House and Senate then fail to impeach and convict, that's also proof per se of a criminal conspiracy.

Few lawyers would say that the president helped his legal position with this interview. It may be that he only cares so much about the substance if he has concluded that he can end it all, period, terminating the investigation and then daring the Congress to impeach him. He would them have put the law behind him and it would be all politics. In the end, though he came close, Nixon would not go that far. As president and as client, Trump is different.

(7,220 posts)I'm guessing that as a private citizen, he can take all the dirt he has on Dump to the press. Or "arrange" for someone else to do so. The results will be a shitstorm of incriminating evidence that will cause everyone (yes even Rethugs) to demand justice.
Also impeachment, then imprisonment. Done and done.

Somehow I think Mr. Mueller's attitude is, as the kids say, Bring it!

(2,958 posts)I can see Trump firing Muller and having all records gathered to date "seized in the interest of security and data integrity" for the next investigator (if there is one).
Then, while they're in their seized state, they mysteriously disappear or become altered in some way that we won't know.
At least original, unaltered docs would exist to be revealed at a later time to keep the record straight.

(3,056 posts)And I'll bet he has. I'd even bet on triplicate, with a copy in a safety deposit box somewhere. Because you're absolutely right...all records would be immediately seized. But these guys are pros...Trump is a playground bully who's in far over his head.

(14,175 posts)So that Trump could 'trump' him first. That way 1. He might intimidate Mueller into at least delaying that route. and 2. failing that, Trump would be able to say..."hey, I warned him not to overstep his mandate...Now I have no choice but to fire him".
