I am tired and need an internet break.

Last edited Thu Jul 20, 2017, 10:57 AM - Edit history (1)

I am going to take a few days, or longer away from the internet, including DU. Since November I have been in a constant state of anger, frustration and fear. I have tried to help candidates when I can, help the party when I can and resist whenever I can, online or offline.

I am 62 years old and I'm damn tired, mentally, physically and emotionally. My health is not the best, my blood pressure has been up since November and as many of you know I am losing my sight to Macular Degeneration. I have been fighting the good fight since I was 15 years old and protesting the war in Vietnam. This person in the White House (I refuse to call him President) may have cooked my goose. I could not sleep again last night after listening to someone on the bus this morning praising him as brilliant and saying who cares if he is talking to the Russians. Well I care, I care A LOT!

I don't believe they will impeach him, in fact I am beginning to think this Republican party will do anything to hold power so he will get reelected in 2020. Sorry for the dismal forecast but I never thought politics could impact my life and well being the way it has the past few months.

I took a break right after the election. While I don't post here, or on other democratic forums I belong to often, I am here almost every day and since February 2 or 3 times a day reading posts from some of my favorites and some newbies.

May give up facebook for good, it has become a very nasty dark place, of course I live in Oklahoma where Trump is king but even friends from home who I thought were sane Republicans have lost their minds with the power they have right now. If 2018 goes to the Republicans I may just crawl in a hole and stay there until we get blown to bits because of the orange one or Eddie Munster.

Not that I would be missed here, I"m not one of the people who post all the time, but I do see this place a my very own disfunctional family . I'll be back in a few days or so. I don't think I am alone in feeling like this. I posted something similar when I came back after the election.

Keep resisting, we have to, me MUST!

It is important to pace yourself and maintain things this side of burnout and/or meltdown.

When you feel up to it come back and visit and throw a few punches so the tr-dump political machine realizes there is meaningful resistance.

Maintaining your health is paramount.

straighten out my poor mental state. Like you, I protested the Vietnam War and the Mideast war and now have truly no hope of anything getting better in my lifetime. After many years of working, voting, doing my best to be a good person -- well, I'm tired.

I want to spend time with my grandchild, do some artwork, read some books, and generally chill out. I can't take it anymore. If the stupid damn people in this stupid damn country want a creature like Trump, well, have at it. It's obvious common sense isn't common, and only very painful lessons (not more blathering from the Democratic Party) will turn things around.

I find that if I take a day off from "24-hour-Trump" that I feel better. I'm rarely on FB but all my friends there share my political views. The folks at work who hated Hillary in the general election and were amused by Trump (and voted for him because they are republicans after all) have gone silent. The only person I limit contact with is one ignorant neighbor who is clueless how government works and how it impacts her life and who voted for Trump and told me "I had to put up with 8 years of Obama and now you'll have to put up with 8 years of Trump". That said, I'm retiring in 3 months to spend more time on my life (gardening, spending quality time with my mom, dog walking, reading, traveling, catching up with friends) but also more time working to defeat all Republicans, from dog catcher to Prez. I'm anxious to get started. Watch out Charles Grassley!

them all the same.

Try to do the things that make you happy. Try to be with people you love - or at least like - as much as you can. Take solace in beloved pets and their antics. Be as active as you can be - taking walks, biking, swimming, etc. Try meditation to help avoid the dark spaces. Wear headphones when forced to travel among idiots who insist on showing their ignorance by praising or defending 45.

I love to listen to music, especially classical pieces, that help me to put things in perspective. I also love to read and, when I really need to be cheered up, the antics of Janet Evanovich's character Stephanie Plum and her trusty sidekick Lula literally make me laugh out loud. Because your macular degeneration likely interferes with reading enjoyment, try audio CDs or downloads of those and any other books that you think that you might enjoy.

Please also know that there are many here who value your participation. Please do not forget that. We need you to continue fighting the good fight.

But take a break! Then please return refreshed!

I'm also so tired of all the bombshells that are being dropped almost daily. Perhaps more of us should do what you are doing. There is just so much frustration and worry that a mind can take.

As for the Trumpeters, give it time. Most are still in denial about Trump and they are energized by the impact that they had in the election, but as with Watergate, over time even Republicans came to see the truth. Not all of them, but enough to make a difference.

Trump is worse than Nixon in so many ways (I am old enough to well remember Watergate). More bombshells will drop and eventually, Republican opinion will turn. Not completely, but enough. It will take time. It took more than 2 years of investigations, the Saturday Night Massacre, and the smoking gun Oval Office tape, for Nixon to resign.

Don't think you won't be missed. We are a community. Every member counts and makes us stronger.

Keep in touch.

We are no good to anyone if we aren't strong, focused and intent. We all go through periods of time when we are weary, especially when we have issues beyond the bounds of "normal" (like health issues, etc.).

Take some time. Enjoy some peace and quiet. Get outside and look at the sun, the moon, the stars. Be around some living creatures. If you have some humans to be around that don't raise your blood pressure, be with them, but otherwise, be alone. Be conscious of your surroundings. Be in the moment. Do some things to pamper yourself.

When you're ready, we'll still be here...

I quit twitter about a year ago. I tried to encourage Texans to Vote. I believe Texas would be Blue if we vote. But I came away from twitter each day angry and frustrated. The bullshit going on in our country is overwhelming. People don't vote because they don't trust government (Thanks Reagan). We get government we can't trust because we don't vote.
I share in your frustration and anger. I am 59 and live in North Texas. I feel helpless.

The news ie "WTF has he done today!?" is becoming an obsession and that is never good for you. Plus, my BP hasn't been good either past couple of checks, not good either.

So, it's probably time for a break. Hmm, I've always wanted to try pottery making ...

I still believe we'll survive this, but most likely we'll be permanently damaged.

Yup, resist in whatever way works for you. See you on the turn around.

A smart man knows when to rest. Being from east Texas also, I have suffered the the insults and close mindedness of ignorant brainwashed so called patriots for years. I'm older than you, but still find the time to work for the Democratic party. A change in your diet could help you have more energy. Y'all come now, hear!

"I don't believe they will impeach him, in fact I am beginning to think this Republican party will do anything to hold power so he will get reelected in 2020."

Its nice to come to this bubble site and pretend that all Americans are seeing and reading the same stories, but that is not true. I also listen on the net to radio stations like Chicago's Progressive Talk. But I know that most Americans don't go to the web for radio and its all mostly RW hate talk radio on the airwaves.

I was ridiculed on here by some as a "concern troll" just before the election when I said we shouldn't be celebrating too soon and that Trump could still win.

The GOP has everything they need now for their perpetual Republican government. Why would they give it up for some silly thing like criminal conspiracy to corrupt the democratic system? They have been doing it for years already. Its just that they have been getting bolder and bolder as they have gotten away with one thing after another. Gerrymandering, Crosscheck, cutting voting hours, stricter voting IDs. And now they have their majority back in place on the SCOTUS to keep those things intact.

Its just that they now have a President that is willing to be as corrupt as necessary, with no morals whatsoever. One that will partner up with their suppression and is in fact leading the way with his fake voter fraud commission, ie. voter suppression commission. So why would they ever help to dethrone him?

They have successfully branded all establishment news orgs as "fake", with their voters. So it doesn't matter how loud they scream. So if they do nothing if Trump fires Mueller, and do not even allow any more investigations to continue, who is going to stop them? Trump is already filling the Comey position with a Trump chump.

In fact with the help of RW hate radio and Fox News egging them on, most deplorables will be in even more admiration at the "fight" Trump and the GOP are showing against the liberal hordes who want to destroy America and stop Trump from making it great again.

He still has 80% of Republicans supporting him! All he would need is a small/medium invasion somewhere to top up his vote with more right wing independents and he will be set for a second term. And he will drag the R majority back with him.

I want to see Democrats in Washington see this danger as well. They are STILL way to mamby pamby for my liking. The no drama Obama days are over. They should take a book out of the Republican's success and be overly dramatic. Incendiary. Over-stated. Call the Republlicans "traitors". Be visibly angry at the illegitimate take over of the country. Call it a coup...every time you get on TV. Let the Republicans stammer and blubber about how outrageous those descriptions are. And then double down on it.

Anyways, I feel your exhaustion. But I think we would all get more energy if the leadership would be even more antagonistic against this treason.
