http://www.nashvillescene.com/music/nashville-cream/article/20867927/kenny-rogers-to-play-starstudded-farewell-show-at-bridgestone"Legendary crossover-country star Kenny "The Gambler" Rogers has built a career on knowing when to hold 'em. Knowing when to fold 'em. Knowing when to walk away and well, you know the rest. And according to an announcement issued by the 78-year-old singer today, Rogers will be walking away in style this fall.
On Wednesday, Oct. 25, Rogers will play a show at Bridgestone Arena that he's calling "All in for the Gambler: Kenny Rogers' Farewell Concert Celebration." The show, which will be filmed, will feature performances from Little Big Town, Alison Krauss, the Flaming Lips, Idina Menzel and more to be announced. What's more, the event will reportedly mark Rogers and longtime friend and collaborator Dolly Parton's "last performance together ever." Say it ain't so!
Tickets to the show will go on sale this Friday, July 21, at 10 a.m. via this link.
So, why is Kenny stepping away from the mic for good? Ive done everything I set out to do, he told press last year. Every goal Ive set, Ive done that, and theres a point where you have to say, Ive had my turn. Let someone else have it, and thats kind of where I am. Its not that I dislike music; its just that I cant keep doing this and do what I want to do, which is spend time with my family.

(28,394 posts)He could hardly sing anymore. It was a good concert, but sad too. He apologized to the crowd for his voice. Everyone gave him a standing ovation just because he is so beloved.
I hope his farewell concert will be on TV.

(268 posts)I freelance for a few magazines and was assigned to write an article about his farewell tour. He called me to do the interview from his house, and was a truly nice guy on the phone. No attitude, no BS, just a really nice person. He just feels like he's had enough, and wants to spend time with his kids; here's a link to the piece I wrote.

(19,965 posts)G & D: Is there anyone currently performing that you enjoy listening to, or maybe feel is underrated?
KR: You know, Ive never listened to the radio in my life! Im kind of a news guy, and I just dont really listen to a whole lot of music; I dont know why.
I wonder is he political ?

(268 posts)I didn't want to go there- G&D likes to keep things light. I did an article in the last issue about Priscilla Presley and the refurb of the Graceland Hotel, and her "people" had to OK every line in the piece. The edgiest thing I got to do was an article about Pete Rose and gambling/sports scandals. THAT was fun!
