(9,974 posts)Like how he only refers to his July request. He sent an email to Boente and others with Browder's PDF attached that listed most of the attendees' names/history/pre- and post meeting 4 months ago. Did he know about the meeting 4 months ago and now is trying to make it look like he just found about their names in July like the rest of us? What prompted his request the end of March 2017 when Browder had sent his information to the Feds in *July 2016*?
What has Grassley known about the Trump/Russia lawyer meeting/attendees and when did HE and the other repubs find out? Cuz he showed interest in them 4 months ago.

Is Grassley worried that Browder is gonna pull out his dated documentation?

(28,795 posts)Here's a good story
The grudge goes back to 2008, when the Russian government granted a fraudulent $230 million tax refund to an organized crime group that included Russian government officials using documents confiscated from the Moscow-based operations of the British investor Bill Browder, who had fallen out of favor with Putin. Magnitsky, a lawyer working for Browder to expose the fraud, was arrested and died in 2009 in a Russian prison, where there is evidence he was badly beaten and denied medical care.
Browderwho was born in Chicago but renounced his U.S. citizenship in 1998responded by lobbying Congress to pass sanctions against Russians implicated in Magnitskys death.
In 2012, Congress, led by Democratic Sen. Ben Cardin of Maryland and Republican Sen. John McCain of Arizona passed the Sergei Magnitsky Rule of Law Accountability Act with broad bipartisan support over the objections of the Obama administration, which felt it would complicate U.S.-Russia relations.
-----------
The Kremlin also escalated its vendetta against Browderwhose business activities were initially tolerated by Putinrequesting three international warrants for his arrest in 2013 and 2014, all of which were rejected by Interpol. Russian authorities have opened numerous criminal cases against Browder, including one for the murder of Magnitsky.
Browder, meanwhile, has lobbied other countries to adopt similar sanctions, and last year, Congress took up another bill named for Magnitsky to sanction human rights abusers around the world.
Great article. Much more:
