2020 could be the year the Supreme Court overturns election of Democrat who wins popular and Electoral College vote. I know it sounds crazy but look at where we are now. We have a GOP that keeps trying to kill Americans and yet they remain in office.

(10,602 posts)My post is just being facetious. I am just putting out what is so ridiculous and absurd as to be remotely believable. However when you look at the 2000 election, 2004 election, and the 2016 elections plus some of the mid terms you have to wonder.
Nothing is too absurd anymore. When you can lie about everything which is what the GOP does all the time and still stay in any kind of power one has to wonder what the H is going on.
There is no way Trump should have won he is so bad. And based on what the GOP is doing right now to create chaos in the health care arena that will kill a lot of American and they are not just crushed with revolt is beyond me.
The GOP seems not need any grounds for so much of what they say. And you see little instant kick back.

(16,423 posts)That's why SCOTUS stopped the recount in Florida: Their argument was that if the election were decided after grueling and lengthy recounts and discussions, this would damage the reputation and authority of whoever would be the winner. And that's why we have to stop counting and move on.
SCOTUS was so convinced of their own reasoning that they added a remark that this decision shall not be used as precedent in future cases.

(30,481 posts)That the Democrat wins the popular vote and electoral college. No caveats.
Not a chance. Gore wouldn't even contest at that time.

(92,190 posts)have requested a recount of the entire state, not just specific areas.
Yes, the SC decision was a terrible one, and in fact the SC made it clear that their decision should NOT be used to justify subsequent issues, but it might never have reached the SC if they just required a complete recount of the entire state, which was their right, instead of selected areas.
However, in the end, the ballot fiasco, and the false equivalencies setup by Nader made it an uphill battle.

(1,107 posts)The Court ruled 54 that no constitutionally valid recount could be completed by a December 12 "safe harbor" deadline. The Court asserted that "the Supreme Court of Florida has said that the legislature intended the State's electors to 'participat[e] fully in the federal electoral process,' as provided in 3 U.S.C. § 5." The Court therefore effectively ended the proposed recount, because "the Florida Legislature intended to obtain the safe-harbor benefits of 3 U.S.C. §5.
USSC"remanded for further proceedings not inconsistent with this opinion." Gore's attorneys therefore understood that they could fight on, and could petition the Florida Supreme Court to repudiate the notion that December 12 was final under Florida law. Gore did not pursue.
