WSJ Editorial: Time Is Running Out for Trump Without Transparency
The Wall Street Journal’s editorial board has hit President Trump with a scathing critique of his skills in Washington politics in light of the latest revelations on Russia. In a blunt editorial urging Trump not to engage in the same kind of “scandal, deception and stonewalling” he often accused Hillary Clinton of, The Wall Street Journal calls on the White House to disclose every single interaction or encounter had with Russia. After news of Donald Trump Jr.’s meeting with a Kremlin-connected lawyer, the paper argues, the president, with his latest 36 percent approval rating, has nothing to lose from full transparency. “If there really is nothing to the Russia collusion allegations, transparency will prove it,” the paper argues. “Pre-emptive disclosure is the only chance to contain the political harm from future revelations,” the editorial reads. “Mr. Trump somehow seems to believe that his outsize personality and social-media following make him larger than the Presidency. He’s wrong.”
