(29,706 posts)Probably not the reason to vote for this one....but I really felt that this reminds me of how people are living now.....in a shack on a river, look at the laundry on the line...look at the dirty water in front of the "home"....it just makes me so sad. Really, they are all beautiful....but this one....makes me so sad.

(39,961 posts)To see who took what. I noticed you had two for Mighty Mississippi. I voted for it as best of the second group (competition was tough this time!). I have to say, though, I liked the first one you didn't enter into the contest even better than the second one. I can't imagine how I would have voted in the finals if you had entered that one.
Something about it is really fascinating to me, especially the overcast skies.

(39,961 posts)to be part of my desktop background cycle? I really like it a lot. I don't want to be using it without permission, however, I'm not sure how these things work.

(2,029 posts)Seeing the initial entries was nearly enough to dissuade me from entering at all. If I hadn't paid so much for my helicopter trip, I would have just sat this one out. Nearly impossible to choose from the finalists...

(39,961 posts)I like it, too - the "Helping hand".
It was so darn hard to pick. I'm so glad you share it with us, because these contests are really a highlight each month ! So much talent.

And I have to say I have really come to enjoy these posts you bring to GD every month. So inspiring to see all this beauty and the different perspectives.
Thank you!

(39,961 posts)Didn't make this cut, but at least the one I liked second best did.
I thought "Small's Falls" was beautiful. I could just imagine dipping my feet in that. "Reflections of Autumn" is my second choice of the whole contest, and I really struggled between which of those to vote for, so at least one of them in the running

(17,087 posts)Smalls Falls is where my high school traditionally went for "Senior Skip Day". They jump from the top of the upper fall into a small (~15' diameter) pool at the base. (I never did that. )

(39,961 posts)It really captures the beauty of the area! I don't really know much about the technical aspects of photography, since I'm lucky if I can take a picture with my cell phone and still manage to not have my thumb in the way, but I know what I find appealing, and I really enjoyed that one.
There are so many talented people on DU, and it's so nice that you all share your talents with us!

(39,961 posts)rotation? It's a great photo. I wanted to ask permission because I'm not sure how the "fair use" bit works and I'd like you to know how much I appreciate it.
bluedigger
(17,087 posts)My fair use doctrine is if you make any money off it, I expect a cut. Otherwise, have at it!

(39,961 posts)There are a few of them that are very nice, and would be a nice addition to the desktop gallery, if the photographers don't mind.
