The tragic mantra of Hillary Clinton.

"You don't know what you've got until you've never had it."

I truly think President Hillary Clinton would be doing a great job at this point. She'd be continuing to build on the gains that President Obama had made over the past 8 years.

But sadly I'd also feel as if she was president right now the far right would be screaming about how she's too liberal, the far left would be whining about how she's not liberal enough and all the Republicans wouldn't shut the hell up about emails and Benghazi and other bullshit.

I'd still take that alternate reality in a heartbeat.

See - this is what drives me crazy about Hillary!

There's always some dodge about the horror we avoided not having her as president.

Not - we'd have a liberal pick replacing Scalia.

Not - fixing the Affordable Care Act, with no chance in hell of ever having it repealed.

Not - strong response to Russian interference in ANY elections!

Not - reinforcement of existing progressive regulation that helps protect us from the excesses of greed and self-serving capitalism!

Not - firm and ongoing commitment to Paris Accords and climate change mitigation, including powering every home in America with solar energy!

No - what we get is, "Thank God we don't have to listen to whiny fringe extremists!"

There's just something about Hillary that makes a whole lot of people...

As I said, I'd take the alternate reality where Hillary is President and some people are whining in a nanosecond over the depressing reality that we face now.

But Hillary would have been treated by adversaries much like President Obama was. The "luxury"--if we can call it that--is the situation now allows us to cut through all that bullshit and better appreciate how much better she would have been, and yet also we bemoan the fact that we can't change the past.

It's a paradox of sorts.

Everything would be a lot less scary but probably not any less frustrating. If Hillary was President, there would be impeachment hearings taking place by now...with no grounds whatsoever for it.

Trey Gowdy and Jason Chaffetz would be grand standing on a daily basis. It's unlikely that Chaffetz would have quit if he'd had the opportunity to crucify Hillary on a daily basis.
