attorney?
Is there such a thing as a "former" spy or intelligence agent? No! Once you are part of that world, you are forever part of that world. There is no climbing back out of that rabbit hole.
It will be really interesting when we find out what was discussed at the meeting that didn't occur with people who aren't attached to the Russian government but are Russian spies and cut outs for recruiting dupes.
Did they just offer information and hacking activities? Or did they offer something more concrete, like violent action in support of trumps campaign? How far were they willing to go to support a trump victory? Just election fraud? Or would they have resorted to old fashioned Russian solutions to political problems. Lotsa' accidental deaths surrounding Russian political problems.
Wonder if tapes exist of the meeting that didn't occur with the Russian agents who aren't anymore.
I wonder if Robert Ludlum and Tom Clancy are saying, "damn, why didn't I think of that".

Left a suicide note : No Foul Play Whatsoever referenced renewed medical problems and worries about the soon to be expired insurance policy for 5m.
Bag over his head connected to a helium source? No Autopsy? This is not how a 81 yr old guy commits suicide. This is the stuff of SPY NOVELS.
My guess
they gave him a needle to knock him out and set up the helium rig and left the note.
ALSO- life insurance policies do not pay on suicideds. In some cases you can collect after two years, and certainly not the full amount . Smith would have known that.
(my brother-in-law is in insurance and my sister-in-law was the VICTIM of a murder suicide and he had a really hard time collecting on her life insurance. Had to threaten Aetna with the states attorney general.)
try and get it.
Deeper and Deeper we go.

(9,808 posts)It's been the recommended protocol for Final Exit Network and other death with dignity organizations for two decades if one lives in a place without a physician assisted suicide protocol. It's basically non-violent, it doesn't leave a big mess, it can be managed by one person alone so nobody else gets indicted, it doesn't have a big margin of error (so one doesn't survive for a few weeks with massive liver damage) and it's effective. FEN recommends having one's papers in order and leaving a statement of intent specifically to save other people from being indicted.
If one's had a 20 year term life insurance policy for 19 years, when it ends, it's going to be extremely expensive to renew. If one has a terminal illness that's going to cause massive loss of quality of life, that renewal may not be possible at all, and one is facing dehumanizing pain and loss of dignity and autonomy.
And talking to the WSJ in the weeks before sounds like clearing his conscience.
