Um...conflict of interest? Russian lobbyist working for our State Dept. She used him as her translator in the court case, also, so he would have been around since she was in court that week.

NBC News reported early Friday that Veselnitskaya, who does not speak English, was accompanied by a Russian-American lobbyist who some U.S. officials believe is a former Soviet counterintelligence officer. NBC also reported that a lawyer for Trump Jr. said that Veselnitskaya was accompanied by a second man, though no details were provided about him.

Anatoli Samochornov, a Russia-born professional translator who worked as a part-time contractor for the State Department, worked with Veselnitskaya last year on an effort to roll back the Magnitsky Act, a law passed in 2012 which allows for sanctions against Russians accused of human rights abuses.

Veselnitskaya has used Samochornovs translation services in court proceedings for cases she has in the U.S. The pair are also founding members of an obscure non-profit group registered in Delaware called the Human Rights Accountability Global Initiative Foundation (HRAGIF).

Samochornov, whose wife lists herself on social media as a program officer at the State Department, recently translated for Veselnitskaya and Katsyv during a court hearing held in the Prevezon case on May 3.

(1,660 posts)3. why would they need a translator for this particular meeting?
The russian lawyer and russian spy speak English. Yes maybe she uses translators for court cases but it is to translate om behalf of witnesses or documents, not for herself.

(108,980 posts)11. Good question. If this is the same Russian translator, this might be another bombshell.

(9,974 posts)7. And meeting names have been surfacing by the hour this morning
Yet not this person's....if it's him I imagine there are a lot more bricks being shit in DC because his and his wife's State Dept employment is already "out there". As well as him being the translator for the lawyer in the money laundering court case. And his role as lobbyist at the same organization with the lawyer.
Someone needs to be pulling THEIR paperwork to see if THEY filled out their paperwork correctly....hello, State Dept?

(19,962 posts)8. Absolutely, they need to be doing it regardless.
