(13,108 posts)The only metal that I know I am not allergic to is solid sterling silver.
I have never worn platinum, so I do not know if I am allergic to it.

(9,188 posts)Sterling silver is really only 92.5% silver. The other 7.5% is alloy -- usually copper.
Most gold jewelry is 10 karat, 14 karat or 18 karat. 10 karat is only 41.6% gold. 14 karat is 58.3%, 18 karat is 75%. The rest is usually a mix of nickel, zinc, silver and/or copper depending on the color.
In some countries you will see 22 karat gold which is 91.6% gold -- the only gold that approaches sterling for purity -- but it is very soft.

(13,108 posts)This was around 1980.
He told me to leave them there for 3 days.
I removed them after 12 hours.
When I showed him my back he couldn't believe what it looked like.
He was running up and down the halls asking if anyone had a camera.
He said he was glad I removed them, and said had never seen anyone so allergic to metal.
I couldn't use an eyelash curler because just seconds after touching my face I would break out in a rash.
When I was a cashier my hands would break out from handling change.
When I referred to solid sterling silver, I meant not sterling silver plated.
P.S. Sam is my nickname. I am female. Thus the reference to the eyelash curler. It is strange that I am not allergic to
solid sterling silver because I prefer it to gold. I think gold looks cheap and gaudy.
