(9,974 posts)Asking to monitor local polling place on Election Day. Posted this early in the year here but it has more meaning now. Wonder how many other consulate staff were involved around the US?
Request was denied, obviously.
Now...remember a few weeks ago when it was reported that Dallas County told the Feds that, yes, Russia hackers tried to break into the County voter information system...Russians picked blue county Dallas and not the surrounding red counties? Houston is in Harris County which also went blue in November. Why were the Russians wanting to monitor polling places on Election Day..in yet another blue county in TX?
The Russian request also asked to do the same at an Oklahoma site as well as in Louisiana. Again, requests were denied. But, IMO, those 2 states were maybe to not make it look like the Russians (Trump) were focusing on TX?
Bottom line...did Moscow get their consulates across the US to help implement and/or monitor whatever data hacking that was getting done?
Living in TX, I was following TX news and found the article post election and then remembered it when the whole Dallas County news broke recently.

Texas Secretary of State Carlos Cascos has said no to Russian officials request to watch Texans vote, according to correspondence obtained by The Texas Tribune.
Please note that only persons authorized by law may be inside of a polling location during voting. All other persons are not authorized and would be committing a class C misdemeanor crime by entering, Cascos wrote last month in a letter to Alexander K. Zakharov, the Russian consul general in Houston. We are unable to accommodate your request to visit a polling station."
They certainly planned this for some time.
This is infuriating.
